Obituary

Albert Carey Fortenberry, 98, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2012, in Pascagoula, MS. Born in Tylertown, MS, June 22, 1914, to Monroe and Addie Brumfield Fortenberry, he graduated from Tylertown High School and spent most of his young life there.
In 1946 he came to Pascagoula where he was employed with Ingalls Shipbuilding Corporation(later Northrup Grumman). He retired in 1979 as Quality Assurance Control Supervisor after more than 33 years with the company. He was a charter member of the Ingalls Management Association.
His was a smile and handshake that greeted members and visitors alike as they entered First Baptist Church, Pascagoula, where for twenty years he served as Chairman of the Ushers. He was also active in many other ministries of the church.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Wanzie Fortenberry Dampreer; five brothers, Ferman, Ellis, Hilton, Lowery, and Roland Fortenberry; and his first wife, Gladys Williams Fortenberry.
He is survived by his wife, Wardine Thomas Fortenberry; two daughters, Phyliss and husband Bill Lambert of Montgomery, AL, and Rachel and husband John Evans, of Tyler, TX; a stepdaughter Barbara and husband Roy Holmes of Pascagoula, MS; five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; and two sisters in law, Edwina Albritton of Tupelo, MS, and Jean Fitzmorris of New Orleans, LA.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 4th from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Pascagoula. Funeral services at 11 a.m. will be conducted by Dr. Jay Cook and Rev. Dennis Ray Smith. Entombment will be in Jackson County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
