Alvin George Carlander Jr., 83, of Vancleave, MS, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family and friends, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and strength. Born on August 22, 1941, in Charleston, South Carolina, he was the cherished son of the late Alvin George and Lula Tanner Carlander Sr.
Alvin's remarkable journey through life was filled with love and devotion. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter, Kimberly Dawn Carlander, and his treasured grandson, Caleb. He was also preceded in death by his parents, Alvin George Sr. and Lula, and his beloved sisters, Margie, Doris, and Jean, who will surely be welcoming him with open arms.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mrs. Geraldine Tanner Carlander, who stood by his side through thick and thin. His spirit lives on in his adoring children: Georgiann (Mike) Nelson, Alvin "Bubba" (Tracy) Carlander, and Belinda (Scott) Satcher, along with his precious grandchildren-Amber (Ed), Tonya, Nicole (Leo), Misty, Stormie, Nick (Ashley), Bobby (Kelly), Brantley, Autumn, and Jeremy-and a joyful brood of twenty great-grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by his siblings, Gerald and Lula, and a multitude of other family and friends who were touched by his generous heart.
A true patriot, Alvin dedicated 23 years of service in the Army National Guard, followed by an impressive 33 years in Civil Service. He was an esteemed member of the Masonic Lodge and took great pride in cooking for church benefits at the campgrounds, often bringing friends and family together over a shared meal. His love for music was evident as he expertly played the guitar and harmonica, filling the air with melodies that captured moments of joy.
Alvin was a master storyteller, spinning tales that brought laughter and warmth to gatherings. He had an infectious passion for cooking, always ensuring that everyone had enough to eat before serving himself-a true testament to his generous spirit. He was a deeply spiritual man, serving as a pastor and elder of the Community of Christ Church in Moss Point. Whether it was a weekend spent on the houseboat or cherished moments watching television, he brought warmth and laughter into the lives of those around him.
Visitation will be held at 10 am on Monday, February 10, 2025, at the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Vancleave. The funeral service will begin at 11 am, followed by a burial at the RLDS Cemetery located at 12205 Mt. Pleasant Rd, Vancleave, MS 39565.
