Alvin Lafayette Felts, Jr., D.D.S., age 80, died on Wednesday, October 25, 2017. He was born September 30, 1937 in Bay St. Louis, MS. He was a loving husband and father of five boys, and an avid Mississippi State sports fan. He was a graduate of Pascagoula High School (1956), Mississippi State University (B.S.), and Loyola University School of Dentistry (D.D.S.). He practiced dentistry in Pascagoula, MS for the past 50 years and was still taking care of his patients at the time of his death. He loved the practice of dentistry and was recognized as outstanding in that profession by his colleagues with his induction in recent years to Fellowship in The American College of Dentists. He served for many years on the Mississippi State Board of Dental Examiners and served as president of that body for two terms. He served our country as a commissioned officer in the U. S. Navy, serving a tour of duty in Da Nang, Vietnam during the Vietnam War. After his military service he returned to live in Moss Point, MS and to the practice of dentistry in Pascagoula, MS for the remainder of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda Diane (Wells) Felts; his brother, Stephen K. Felts, MD (Susan Smithwick Felts), his five children: Alvin (T'Al) Lafayette Felts, lll, DMD, Robert Lindsey (Kala Hightower) Felts, Andrew Paul Felts, Michael Stephen Felts and Joseph Adam Felts, his beloved grandchildren, Alvin Lafayette (Tee) Felts, IV, Zachary Matthew (Zak) Felts, Aden Lindsey Felts, Samuel Thomas Felts, River Jonathan Felts, Tristen Andrew Paul Felts; his niece Susannah Joy Felts, nephew Andrew Stephen Felts; his cousins, Harvey Calvin Felts lll, Christine (Hiley) Thatch, Theodore Hiley and David Hiley.
He was predeceased by his parents Alvin Lafayette Felts, Sr. and Irma King Felts of Pascagoula, MS.
Pallbearers will be his sons Alvin Felts, III, Robert Felts, Paul Felts, Michael Felts, Joseph Felts and his nephew Andrew Felts.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeffrey Borho and Lee Hunter.
Visitation will be Saturday October 28,2017 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moss Point. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 2:00 pm with Father Mike Kelleher officiating.
Interment will be in the family plot in Griffin cemetery in Moss Point,MS with military honors conducted by the American Legion Post #160.
The family request in lieu of flowers that donations be made in his memory to Donated Dental Services of Mississippi.
