Mrs. Avis Katherine Calico Wallace, 85, of Big Point, Miss., passed away October 13, 2012, in Pascagoula, Miss., surrounded by family. She was born April 12, 1927 in Berea, Ky., but moved to Jackson County with her family in 1960 and had resided in Big Point since 1964. Mrs. Wallace was a homemaker, and raised six children with her late husband, Elmer Lee Wallace, to whom she was married for 62 years. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her dog Cricket, reading, working puzzles and watching the Atlanta Braves on television.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Ethel Calico, brother Harold Calico, sisters Edna Taylor, Dorothy McCracken and Bernice Calico; daughter Betty Katherine Deihl, daughter-in-law Irene Wallace and grand-daughter Katherine Michelle Stephenson.
Survivors include her brother Alan (Mary) Calico of Richmond, Ind.; sons: Eugene Wallace of Ocean Springs, Miss., James A. Wallace of Big Point and Billy Wayne (Deborah) Wallace Sr. of Grand Bay, Ala.; daughters: Janet (Clayton) Ely of Big Point, and Faye (Preston) Bell-Eiland of Helena, Miss.; son-in-law Woody Deihl of Helena; grandchildren: Michelle (Robin) Smith, Colleen Smith, Jeffry Stephenson, Creg Stephenson, Joey (Lauren) Stephenson, Richie (Vicki) Deihl, Tracy Deihl, Brandon (Mandi) Deihl, Brandon Ely, Jana (Donnie) Wallace, Sharli (Jason Houston) Ely, William (Kelly) Ross, Elias (Gloria) Wallace, Karee (Bryan) Gilman, Amanda Watson, Billy Wallace Jr., Elisa (Bruce) McDonald, Kim Saucier and Bobby Eiland; and great-grandchildren: Collin, Dustin and Jefferson Stephenson; Will Mathis, Gabriella Stephenson, Katie and Kyle Guessford, Lexi, Hailey, Perry and Zack Deihl; Jolie Wallace, Maegan Sims, Drew Ross, Zach, Nate and Kyle Wallace; Dustin and Ashlee Gilman; Brayden and Tres Watson; Logan, Emilee and Landon Ulrich; Steven McDonald, and Tre and Nadia Saucier.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 18, from 6-8 p.m. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home, 4007 Main Street, Moss Point. Funeral services will be Friday, October 19, at 11 a.m. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alton Stokes of Grand Bay Assembly of God presiding. Interment will follow at Serene Memorial Gardens, Hwy 613,Escatawpa.
Pallbearers will be grandsons William Ross, Creg Stephenson, Brandon Ely, Elias Wallace and Billy Wallace Jr.; and great-grandson Collin Stephenson.
