It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Barbara Ann Morie, who departed this life at the age of 89, peacefully and in the presence of her beloved family on March 14, 2026.
Born on June 17, 1936, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to John Burgeau and Adele Burgeau Holcomb, Barbara's journey was marked by compassion and dedication. Though she began her professional life in banking, it was in Mississippi that she discovered her true calling: nurturing and guiding children. As director of Eastlawn Methodist Daycare in the 1970s, and later through her own home daycare and work within the school system, Barbara devoted herself wholeheartedly to the well-being and growth of countless young lives. Her unwavering commitment to teaching and caring for children was the thread that wove through every chapter of her life.
Barbara's legacy lives on through her loving family: her daughter Karan (Tim) Ritter, her chosen daughter June Cook, her granddaughter Rachel (Derek) Mitchell, her grandson Matt (Monica) Ritter, and her great-grandchildren Isabel and Julia Mitchell, John Parker, and Thomas Ritter. She is also remembered by her former husband, Charles Morie, and his family, as well as her son, Keith Morie, and his family. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her Riverchase community, whose kindness and companionship brought joy and cherished memories to Barbara during her final year. A special thanks to her caretakers Cali, Bree, Latoya and Stacey.
A memorial service honoring Barbara's remarkable life will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the Chapel of Holder Wells Funeral Home, 4007 Main Street, Moss Point, Mississippi. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, followed by the service at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Barbara's lifelong devotion to children by supporting the Eastlawn Methodist Church youth fund.
