Betty Lou Wolverton, age 90, of Moss Point, Mississippi, passed away Thursday, June 19, 2025, in Pascagoula, Mississippi. Betty was born September 11, 1934 in Pascagoula, a daughter of William and Helen Lorena Stewart. She graduated in 1952 from Moss Point High School. She married the love of her life, Charles Wolverton on July 12, 1952. Betty was a dedicated homemaker. She enjoyed being a life-long member of New Horizon Ministries, a caring Sunday School teacher for 45 years, a passionate philanthropist by giving back to her church and community while also giving numerous Bibles to the community, and a servant to many.
She is preceded in death by two sons, Richie Wolverton and Ty Wolverton; one grandson, Cole Vice; her parents, W.R. and Helen Stewart; and eight siblings, Mary Ann Stringer, William Stewart, Greta Gardner, David Stewart, Riley Stewart, Brenda Parker, Laura Emma Stewart, and son-in-law James Briley.
She is survived by her spouse Charles Lee Wolverton of Moss Point, Mississippi; four children, Debbie Briley, Cyndi Brentz (Charlie), Jeff Wolverton, and Josh Wolverton (Alana); four sisters, Flora Mae Bond, Rita Robinson (Guy), Dianne Denmark (Ernie), and Helen "Tuffty" Davis; nine grandchildren, Jamie Briley (Jessica), Brandon Briley (Sara), Chad Wolverton (Erin), Melissa Wolverton-Dye (Rob), Bryce Brentz (Anne Marie), Jared Brentz (Erin), Ashton Shirley (Patrick), and Trevor Wolverton (Kelly); and nineteen great-grandchildren with numerous nephews and nieces.
Visitation will be Tuesday, June 24, 2025 from 10:00 AM - 11:00 AM at New Horizon Ministries with funeral service immediately following at 11:00 AM with Mitchell Poole and Mike Devine officiating. Graveside service will follow at 12:00 PM in Orange Grove Cemetery.
