Obituary

Mr. Carlos Gomez, 77, of Gautier, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, December 2nd, 2017 at Singing River Hospital, Ocean Springs, MS with his family and fiancée by his side.
Carlos, known by many as "Chuck", was born in San Antonio, TX on June 11, 1940. He graduated from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio prior to joining the United States Marine Corps where he served his country for 12 years, including 2 tours in Vietnam during the Vietnam War. Carlos also served in the United States Air Force Reserve for 13 years where he held the position of Command Sargent for 920th Hurricane Hunters at Keesler Air Force Base. Following his service in the Marine Corps, Carlos worked for the Department of Shipbuilding (SUPSHIP), US Navy. Carlos utilized his expertise of metallurgy, welding and project management to provide quality assurance services to our fleet of US Navy vessels until he retired in 1995. He worked and held positions of increasing responsibilities within SUPSHIP for 24 years working in Baltimore, MD, Yokosuka, Japan and Pascagoula, MS.
Carlos loved his God, his family and his country. After retiring from SUPSHIP, Carlos continued to work in the shipbuilding industry for several years then ultimately became a small business owner where he worked until he passed. Carlos should be remembered as a strong believer in working hard, earning his own way and serving his God and Country.
Carlos is survived by his fiancée, Bach Luu Clayton, his daughter and son in law, Charlotte and Ron Dethloff of Humble, TX, his son and daughter in law, Carlos, Jr. and Xuejing (Snow) Gomez, Mobile, AL and his son and daughter in law, Salvador and Joanna Gomez, Jackson, MS. Carlos was also survived by six grandchildren, Carlos Gomez, III, Mark Gomez, Anthony Gomez, Mitchell Dethloff, Emily Gomez and Sarah Dethloff. He is also survived by his sister Gracie De La O, San Antonio, TX, and his brothers, Rudy Gomez and Gilbert Gomez, both currently living in San Antonio, TX.
Carlos was preceded in death by Margaret Ellen Gomez, his wife of 42 years, his parents, Salvador Venancio Gomez and Eudolia Fernandez Gomez, San Antonio, TX, brothers Salvador Gomez, Baltimore, MD, Eugene Gomez, Hemet, CA, Rueben Gomez, Texas, Edward Gomez, Florida, James Gomez, Texas.
Carlos was a member at Providence Presbyterian Church in Mobile, AL.
Services will be held at Holder-Wells Funeral Home, 4007 Main Street, Moss Point, MS. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Carlos will be honored with a grave side military burial at the Biloxi National Cemetery, 400 Veterans Avenue, Biloxi, MS on Friday, December 8, 2017 at 2:30 p.m. Carlos will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife, Margaret.
