Carolyn Stone
Stegall
December 10, 1938 – May 9, 2026
Carolyn Stone Stegall, born in Kreole, Mississippi on December 10, 1938, departed this life on May 9, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. A lifelong resident of the Gulf Coast, Carolyn was deeply rooted in the community she cherished and called home throughout her life.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, Carl Edward Stegall, Sr., as well as her parents, Robert "Buck" Stone and Willie Mae "Eggie" Stone.
She is survived by her children, Ed Stegall (Jopi) and Traci Buschmann (Mark). She was a cherished grandmother to Stephanie Tomes (David), Richard Stegall (Clare), Matthew Stegall, Will Stegall (Eden), Caroline Washington (Marcelo), Claire Brewton, and Ben Brewton. Carolyn was also blessed with nine great-grandchildren: Carl, Natalie, David, Harper, Piper, Micah, Ty, Della, and Layla.
She is also survived by her sister, Margaret DuBois and her husband, Ernie DuBois, as well as her brother, Dorian Stone.
Carolyn twice retired during her working years, first from International Paper and later from the Naval Station SUPSHIP in Pascagoula. She was an avid supporter and devoted fan of Carl's music throughout the many years he performed across the Gulf Coast with The Nite Riders.
Above all else, Carolyn treasured her family and found her greatest joy in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was deeply loyal to lifelong friends and known for her strong work ethic, her practical, no-nonsense nature, and her willingness to speak honestly and set things right when needed. Her strength, determination, and steadfast love for those around her left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Her absence will be deeply felt in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the incredible staff of Ashland Place Health and Rehabilitation and Springhill Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Carolyn. Their patience, kindness, and wisdom throughout this difficult journey made the path a little easier for the family to walk.
The family will be scheduling a memorial service in the following days.
