Obituary

Chester Cranfield "Sonny" Breland, Jr. 86 passed from this life on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at his home in Lucedale. He was born October 21, 1929 and was a veteran of the United States Army. Sonny was a very hard working and dedicated man. He owned and operated Breland's Heating & Air for many years in Escatawpa. In his spare time, Sonny loved to hunt, fish, he particularly enjoyed fox hunting but most important to him were his family and especially his grandchildren. Sonny was active in the community as Past Master of Lodge #419 F&AM of Moss Point and was also a 33rd Degree Mason and Joppa Temple Shriner. He was an active member of the Anna O'Neil Chapter #37 Order of the Eastern Star of Moss Point and a Life Member of Plumber and Pipefitters Local 568 of Gulfport. Sonny was preceded in death by his father and mother, Chester Cranfield Breland, Sr. and Norma Laverne Rogers Taylor; wife, Mazelle Taylor Breland; step-father, Charles Alex Taylor; brother, Frank Breland; brother-in-law, Arvis Taylor; and a granddaughter-in-law, Rachael Ables Self. Survivors include his children, Lana M. Self, Juanita M. "Shelli" Harris and husband David; brothers and sisters, Virginia Harrell, Harvey Breland and wife Betty, Terry Breland and wife Joyce, Joe Taylor and wife Rhonda and Alex Taylor and wife Tatsie; grandchildren, Jason Miller and wife Rhiannon, Christa Harris and Fiance' Quentin Taylor, David Harris, Jr. and wife Grisel, Jerico Harris and wife Sabrina and Brian Self; Fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces; nephews; other relatives; and many friends. Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2016 from 2:00 until 3:00pm at Coastal Funeral Home in Moss Point. Funeral services will follow at 3:00pm from the funeral home chapel with interment immediately following at Community of Christ Cemetery in Escatawpa. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the nurses and staff of Amelia's Garden Assisted Living in Lucedale as well as Southern Care Hospice and Doctor Huber for all of their dedicated and loving care shown to Mr. Breland and family.
