Obituary

Claude Ellis Finch Jr., 80, of Helena, MS, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, September 23, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Ellis was born on July 19, 1943, in Shady Grove, Mississippi. He was a graduate of Shady Grove High School.

In 1963, Ellis married his high school sweetheart, Barbara. He served his country in the US Army and worked for over 30 years at Chevron Oil Refinery in Pascagoula. After retirement, Ellis enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, traveling with his wife, golfing at Whispering Pines, going deer and elk hunting, and serving his church at First Baptist Church of Helena as a deacon. Ellis also volunteered his time to his community by serving on the school board for the Moss Point school district. Ellis will be always be remembered for his steadfast Christian belief, kindness to others, and the love he showed for his family.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Davis Finch; his parents, Claude E Finch Sr and Wilma Finch; his brothers-in-law, Jerry Davis, Milton Davis, and Edgar Orr; and his sisters-in-law, Ann Davis and Mary Davis.

Those left to cherish him are his children, Kathy Finch, Chris (Bridgette) Finch, and Melanie (Mike) Sparks; six grandchildren, Jenica Finch, Jaycie (Wesley) Finch Barbee, Amber (Gavin) Carter, Zack (Macie) Tice, Kyle Sparks, and Michael Sparks; four great-grandchildren, Jillian Horn, Jemma Horn, Georgia Kate Tice, and Asher Carter; sisters and brother-in-law, Evelyn and John Blackwell and Billie Orr; as well as many other family, friends, and neighbors. The family would also like to thank Hospice of Light for their care, compassion, and support.

The family will have a small, graveside service on Friday, September 29, at 11 a.m. at Machpelah Cemetery. Friends and relatives are welcome to join.

Pallbearers are Kyle Sparks, Michael Sparks, Zack Tice, Gavin Carter, Wesley Barbee, and Jason Blackwell.
