Colby Stephenson Breland, age 43, of Moss Point, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, with his family by his side.
A lifelong resident of Jackson County, Colby graduated from Moss Point High School in 2000 and made his living in the plumbing trade. Taught by some of the best in the business, he took great pride in his work and in being part of the local plumbing family. Over the years, Colby shared his knowledge and skills with many young men, leaving a lasting mark on those he mentored.
Colby was a proud member of the Pascagoula Elks Lodge, where he could often be found cooking some of the best steaks on Friday nights. He never missed a line dance, his laugh was unforgettable, and he was one of the most selfless men you could ever meet.
Whether he was mentoring young plumbers or sharing life advice, Colby did it with humor and heart. When teaching his nephew the trade, he'd say, "Hot is on the left, cold is on the right. Water runs downhill, and don't bite your fingernails." He learned to "be cool" from a great friend and shared that wisdom freely whenever things got heated. As one lifelong friend put it best, "I'll miss his kind heart, his unwavering loyalty, his infectious laugh, and most of all his ability to see the good in people even when they failed to see it in themselves."
Colby was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Steve and Verlee Breland; his stepdad, who was so much more than a dad, Dave McCain; and his aunt, Stephany Breland.
He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, laughter, and generosity - one that continues through his choice to become an organ donor. Colby is survived by his loving mother, Stevie McCain; sisters Abby Breland Clark (Chad), Emily McCain Higdon (Billy), and Abby McCain Browne (Jonathan); nieces and nephews Evan Tilley (Desiree), Azlynn Alexander, Owen Tilley, Chaffin Clark V, Kamdyn Clark, Jonas Shubert, Grace Higdon, Claire Higdon, William Higdon V, Maddy Jones (Chris), Stephen Browne, great-nephew Palmer Jones; his uncle and aunt, Barry and Alicia Siler, and aunts Marie McCain and Rose Marie McCain.
The family extends special thanks to the Singing River Pascagoula Hospital ICU team, the Pascagoula Elks Lodge, the local plumbing community, and all of Colby's dear friends who offered their love and support.
A celebration of Colby's life will be held on Sunday, November 9, at 2:00 PM at the Pascagoula Elks Lodge 1120, 303 Krebs Avenue, Pascagoula. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Elks National Foundation or the Pascagoula Elks Scholarship Fund in Colby's memory.
