Dorothy Edris Roberts Eklund, was born March 10, 1917, to John Daniel Roberts and Alma Clark Roberts, in St. Elmo, Alabama. She passed away on September 20, 2023, at the age of 106, surrounded by her family. She became the loving wife of Carl Joseph Eklund on May 22, 1935, and they were married for 71 years. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl Joseph Eklund, six brothers, Clyde, Ruble, Walter, Richard, Murray, and Louie, and three sisters, Lillian, Georgia, and Cecil. And her son-in-law, Sam "Sonny" Wilkins Vann, Jr.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Marian Joanne Vann, of Moss Point, and her devoted granddaughter, Melanie Patrice Vann Wieniewitz, two beloved great-grandsons Devin Vann Wieniewitz (Olivia), Matthew Joseph Wieniewitz, and one great-great-grandson, Jackson Vann Wieniewitz.
Mrs. Eklund, survived by many special nieces and nephews, looked forward to their visits and phone calls.
As a young teenager, Dorothy prayed that God would allow her to cook and sew for the rest of her life, and gave Him honor and praise for enabling her to fulfill that prayer until the age of 104.
Dedicating many years as a cafeteria manager for Moss Point School Systems, Mrs. Eklund not only provided nourishing food, but also love, kindness, and support for several generations of her students. Mrs. Eklund was a member of First Baptist Church of Moss Point and a former member of Kreole Baptist Church of Kreole. She was one who lived her life with faith, love, grace, dignity, and uprightness and gently passed those on to all who knew her.
Visitation for Mrs. Eklund will be held Monday evening, September 25, 2023, beginning at 6 p.m.
until 8 p.m. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home, 4007 Main St., Moss Point, MS 39563.
Visitors may call on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, from 2-3 p.m. at First Baptist Church Moss with the funeral service beginning at 3 p.m. with Rev. Michael Perry and Rev. Derek Tapper officiating. Interment will follow at Griffin Cemetery, Moss Point, MS. Serving as pallbearers are Danny Boudreaux, Jack Culpepper, Steven Derganc, Larry Downs, Devin Wieniewitz, and Matthew Wieniewitz.
The family would like to thank Vital Care and Hospice for the excellent care they provided for our precious mother and grandmother, and to Rev. Michael Perry for his caring and support throughout many years.
