Bette 93, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, March 23, 2023. She lived with the terrible disease of dementia for well over 18 years.
Bette was born on September 2, 1929, in Green Bay, Wisconsin. For most of her life, she was the one in charge of the inner workings of the home and did a great job managing all that comes with it.
She loved to play slot machines, and she was lucky at them! She was married to her husband, Lyle Van Veghel for over 74 years until he recently passed last December.
Lyle and Bette have 4 children, Stephen (Leslie) Van Veghel, Paul (Debbie) Van Veghel, David (Clarissa) Van Veghel, and Lani (Jerry) Larkin. Also, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Thornton, and her mother, Octavia Thornton.
Bette was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pascagoula. A memorial service and Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial at Biloxi National Cemetery with her husband. The day and time will be announced at a later date.
