Obituary

Genevieve "Tootie" Davis Leathers was born on June 1, 1933 in McKenzie, TN. She died on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 in Grand Bay, AL. She graduated from High School in 1952, and attended Mississippi Baptist Hospital (Gilfoy School of Nursing), earning a Registered Nursing degree in 1955. She began working in the old Jackson County Hospital in 1956, where she helped open a drug room, extended care and medical overflow, and psychiatric units. She retired from Singing River Hospital in 1987. She loved to read and cook – especially sweets. Tootie is survived by her children, Levain Leathers and wife Nancy, Juanita Morphis, and Craig Leathers and wife Bobbie; sister, Shirley Davis Baumhauer; and brother Robert "Bobby" Davis; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Boyce "Red" Leathers; parents, R.L. Davis and Sarah Davis Preston; son Raymond Leathers; brothers, Robert "Bubba" Davis and Paul Davis; and sister Jo Ann Gregory. A private interment will be held at Biloxi National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made in Tootie's name to The Gideons Bible Program. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff of Grand Bay Convalescent Home for their loving care of Tootie.
