Obituary

Hendrix Emile Brentz Sr., 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 14, 2013. He was born April 3, 1931 in Moss Point, MS. Hendrix is preceded in death by his wife, Bobbye Rachel Brentz; parents, Albert and Ina Brentz; brothers, Albert "A." Brentz, Houston "Shorty" Brentz, and Quinton Brentz; sisters, Irene Simmons, Bernice Brentz, and Kathline Ashcraft. He is survived by his four children, Hendrix E. (Mary) Brentz Jr. of Lucedale, MS, David E. (Angela) Brentz, of Moss Point, MS, Charles E. (Cyndi) Brentz of Knoxville, TN, and Kathryn Irene Brentz of Moss Point, MS; sister, Evelyne Necaise of Diamondhead, MS; grandchildren, Dustin M. Brentz, Charis (Paul) Lollar, Bryce Brentz, Jared Brentz, Brandi Brentz, Hendrix E. Brentz III and David Allen Brentz; and great granddaughter, Addison Grace Brentz Mr. Brentz had three loves in his life. First was the Lord and his church where he served as a Priest, Elder, & High Priest. While in service to God, Hendrix lead youth camps for over 20 years, made annual trips to Graceland College for sports spectacular with the youth from the Gulf States Region for over 20 years, Lead & planned witnessing weekends in the GSR, served as Junior Pastor & as Pastor of the Escatawpa Branch, District President for the Mobile District, member of the Bluff Spring board of Directors, attended World Conferences in Independence, MO as a delegate on many occasions and attended church services every time the doors were open as long as he was able. Second was his love for his wife and family. Third was playing football as a freshman and sophomore at Moss Point High before moving to Kosciusko, MS for his junior and senior years. During his senior year, as running back for the Kosciusko Class of 1949, they won the Mississippi State Championship beating out the competition Picayune, MS. He was also President of the Dixie Youth Baseball League with Moss Point American for many years. His passion for the youth of America will forever be remembered. In 1949, after graduation, Hendrix served his country for 4 years in the United States Navy aboard the USS New Jersey as a Gunners Mate in the 16'' gun turret during the Korean War. After the Navy, he attended Holmes Junior College in Goodman, MS before transferring on to Mississippi State University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Drafting and Teaching in 1957. After graduation, he moved back to the coast and went to work at Ingalls Shipbuilding as a draftsman. While at Ingalls, he became known for his drafting ability and taught night classes in drafting for the apprenticeship program. He landed a job at Thiokol Chemical (Rohm and Haas) as a draftsman and served in many capacities there over the next 30+ years. He retired in 1996 after suffering from his 4th heart attack and received a heart transplant in September 2000. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Holder-Wells Funeral Home Moss Point, MS. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 10:00 am at Community of Christ Church in Escatawpa, MS with Elder Billy Graham, Elder Joe White, Elder John Lee, and Bishop Stancil Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Community of Christ Cemetery in Escatawpa, MS. Arrangements made by Holder-Well Funeral Home.
