Mrs. Jimmie Faye Gully Schafer 87, Moss Point, MS, passed away on February 5, 2023 in Moss Point, MS. She was
born May 3, 1935 to James B. Gully and Mabel Otis Dunn in Meridian, MS. She grew up in Laurel,
MS, and graduated from Jones County Jr. College Agricultural High School. Upon graduation she
moved to Baton Rouge, LA. There she met her husband of 64 years, Everett C. Schafer. In 1969 they
started Schafer Construction Company. She served as office manager, accountant and interior designer.
She served as President of the Home Builders Women's Auxiliary for two terms. During that time a
scholarship for students attending LSU Construction Technology was established. In 1978 she served
as executive secretary to the President of the Democratic State Committee for LA. She attended Jimmy
Carter's inauguration in 1979. Later she changed her affiliation to the Republican Party. In 1987 she
and her husband moved to Georgia. There the Schafer Construction Company began again. She earned
her GRI Real Estate License and was awarded The Million Dollar Award three years in a row.
In 1995 she and her husband retired to Moss Point, MS, where she resided at the time of her death. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star of Gautier, MS. She
was a member of First Baptist Church of Pascagoula, where she was known for her incredible hugs.
She is survived by: One daughter, Cynthia Schafer (Chris) Grant of Columbia, MO; Two sons, Ron E.
(Arleen) Schafer of Los Angeles, CA and Dr. Brian C. (Holly) Schafer of Cape Girardeau, MO; Five
grandchildren, Hayden Grant, Alyssa Neitzert, Eva Schafer, Claire Schafer, Koji Schafer; Two great
granddaughters, Finley Jane Grant and Allie Faye Neitzert; Two sisters, Jerry Gully Graff and Jo Gully
(Bill) Thornton; One brother, James (Kay) Gully. Also survived by loving in laws: Kay Gully, Dell
Gully, Steve (June) Schafer; And many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held February 25, 2023 from 10 to 11 am at First Baptist Church of Pascagoula, MS.
Service to follow. Internment will be at Machpela Cemetery, Pascagoula, MS.
