Mr. Joe Wayne Franklin, 81, of Mathison, Mississippi, passed away on Thursday Morning, December 28, 2023, in Tupelo, Mississippi. He was born on December 16, 1942, in Winston County, Mississippi to Charles and Lucille Lucus Franklin.
Joe was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was hungry for and enjoyed life. Not only did he love to eat, but he was also an adventurous hunter and fisherman. He would work from day to dark keeping busy with building things and gardening. He never missed a chance to pull a prank on family and friends. One of his favorite pastimes was playing the game Phase 10 with the neighbors. In 2005 he retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding as a burner.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his grandson, Charles Franklin, brothers, Billy Dean Franklin, and Prentiss Franklin, and sister, Iva Jean Franklin.
Survivors are his devoted and beloved wife, Ann Ladnier Franklin, son, Marcus "Mark" Eugene (Lynn) Franklin, and daughter, Belinda C. (Steve) Wright. Two grandchildren, Justin Scovel, and Christine Wright, and two great-grandchildren, Dakota Franklin, and Waylon Franklin. One brother, Allen Franklin, and one sister, Margaret Ann (Jerry) Wilson, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Sunday, December 31, 2023, from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. at Holder-Wells Main Street Funeral Home, 4007 Main St., Moss Point, Mississippi 39563. The funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. in the funeral home Chapel with Rev. Corey Bailey and Bro. Mitch Osborne officiating. The burial will take place at Vancleave Cemetery on Jim Ramsey Rd., in Vancleave, Mississippi. A very special thank you to his nephew, Sam Franklin, and brother-in-law, Jerry Wilson.
