Obituary

Leon Ira Martin, born March 12, 1963, in Pascagoula, Mississippi, was the beloved son of Roy and Gaynell Martin of Pascagoula. A lifelong resident of his hometown, Leon graduated from Live Oak Academy in 1981, where he played football as an offensive guard. He went on to build a lifetime career in the marine industry, spending many years as a commercial fisherman and later as a marine fiberglass technician at Quality Fiberglass in Pascagoula, working alongside his best friend, Hula.
Preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Meadie Martin, and Emile and Nellie Manuel, as well as his special Aunt Martha French and many more aunts and uncles, Leon leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness.
He is survived by his devoted partner, Penny Foster Rankin; his children, Aaron Martin, Matthew Martin, and Christie Martin (Jason); and his cherished grandchildren, Andy, Addilyn, Stella, Waylon, Anna, and Abby. He is also survived by his parents, Roy and Gaynell Martin; his siblings, Roy Martin, Jr. (Missy) and Ernie Martin (Jill); his sister-in-law, Nicole Scott; his brother-in-law, Bobby Foster (Jennifer); and his nieces and nephews, Brittany Crowe (Arron), Lauren Martin, Cain Martin (Anna), Brandon Morgan (Regina), and Sarah Robinson (Graham). Leon's special friends and extended family include John Ramsower (Hula), Lisa June (Chuck), and many other cousins and loved ones.
Leon was known for his big heart, his deep love for his children and grandchildren, and his joy in spending time on the water. Nothing thrilled him more than seeing his boat sit low in the water after a successful day's catch. He had a natural compassion for animals, delighting in rescuing stray cats and giving them forever homes, and in caring for local wildlife.
His legacy is one of generosity, hard work, and unwavering love for his family, friends, and the Pascagoula community.
