Margaret Kirkwood of Cumbest Bluff MS was born January 31,1923 and passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, at age 101, leaving behind a legacy of love and dedication to her family and community. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lavelle Kirkwood, and her parents, Lyle and Clara Field, daughter Karen Blocker, grand-children James Blocker and Leslie Kiser, a great-great-grandson Wyatt Taylor, six brothers and sisters.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Linda (Waltman) Vaughan, Janet Kirkwood, and Larry Kirkwood; her grandchildren: Robert Blocker and Paul Waltman; and her great-grandchildren: Kristian, Robin, Cliff, Hayden, Ashton, Sydney, Jacob, Noah, Emmie, Aubrey, and Matthew. She is also survived by her great-great-grandchildren: Madison, Keaton, Fallon, Nathan, Bella, and Colton, as well as great-great-great-grandchild, Cambree.
Margaret was a strong and resourceful woman who with her husband built a hardware store in Cumbest Bluff, where she was a cherished member of the community. Known for her green thumb, she found joy in gardening, fishing, and baking cakes that were loved by all who knew her.
She was a longtime attendee of Wade Baptist Church, where she worshiped until her health began to fade. Margaret was an Eastern Star in Wade and enjoyed participating in the weekly Antique Angels event, where she always had a grand time.
Her funeral service will be held at Johnson Cemetery on September 25, 2024. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM at the Johnson Cemetery Tabernacle, followed by the funeral at 11:00 AM. Her favorite color was red, and the family is asking for everyone to wear red to the service.
Margaret's life was a testament to love, strength, and community. She will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.
