Mrs. Marie Gandy's Obituary
Marie Gandy, passed away on 22 October 2023, in Mobile, Alabama, of complications following surgery.
She was born in 1945 as Alice Marie Taylor, second child of Louis Gray Taylor and Arnelda Ramsey Taylor, in Columbus, Mississippi. In 1964 she married John Palmer Gandy of Selma, Alabama. They moved to Pascagoula in 1969.
She is predeceased by her parents; daughter-in-law Teresa Keen Gandy of Pascagoula; brother-in-law Randy Brewer of Biloxi; and best friend Judy Traywick of Pascagoula She is survived by her husband; by sons John Gandy Jr. of Pascagoula and Jeffrey Gandy of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren John Gandy III of North Carolina and Ashley Gandy (m. Amber Gesselman Gandy) of Biloxi; brothers Louis "Sonny" Taylor of Moss Point and Gary Taylor of Biloxi; and sister Sharon Richardson (m. Robert "Bobby" Richardson) of Columbus. Other beloved family members include sister-in-law Ruth Fore and nieces Vicki Dyess and Sabrina Blackwelder, all of Loxley, Alabama; niece Tiffany Smith of Columbus (m. Bill Smith); and friend Pam Eves of Pascagoula. Beloved animal companions include Cleetus, Rusty, and Sassy.
Marie Gandy was known to generations of children and parents as a childcare provider and the owner-operator of The Punkin' Patch Day Care of Escatawapa. She was a great advocate of child protection, and her kitchen was always open to friends and family. She was a rock to all who knew her, a woman of tremendous faith, and a member of The Church on the Rock. Her devotion to family and friends cannot be repaid.
A memorial service will be held Friday, October 27, at Church on the Rock, Chicot Street, Pascagoula. Visitation will be at 1:30. Service will be at 2:00. Flowers are welcome, but the family asks for donations to CASA of Southeastern Mississippi, 4903 Telephone Road Pascagoula, MS 39567, or to Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
