Mary Ellen Fletcher was born on April 15, 1937. She went to be with the Lord on March 3, 2021, in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was the oldest daughter of the late Ernest Lenwood Blackmon and Mary Ina Blackmon.
Mary Ellen graduated from Mississippi College for Women with a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology. She was employed at Singing River Hospital in Pascagoula, Mississippi for ten years.
She moved with her husband and children to Ras Tanura, Saudi Arabia for fifteen years and retired in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was the leader of the Braille team there, where she published bibles for the blind. A caring and loving woman of Christ, she enjoyed spending time with her family and visiting her grandsons in New Hampshire.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ina (Padgett) Blackmon, her father. Ernest Lenwood Blackmon, mother-in-law, Arie Calcote Fletcher, husband, William Hugh Fletcher, grandson, Pierce Stevens, and her brother-in-law, George "Bebe" Colville.
Mary is survived by her children, daughter, Mary Kathleen (Mark) Stevens, son, William Fitzhugh Fletcher, grandsons, William Bruce Stevens, Dennis Fletcher Stevens, Maxwell Lincoln Stevens, Jackson Heath Stevens, a brother Buddy Blackmon, her sister, Nancy (Forrest) Bowler, her sister-in-law, Una (Bebe) Colville and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends,
A celebration of life will be held for Mary Ellen on Saturday, April 10, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Redhill Cemetery in Vancleave, MS. Rev. John Tucker will be officiating.
