It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of Mary Ellen Thornton at the age of 78. She left us on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at Diversicare of Moss Point in Moss Point, Mississippi.

Mary was born on August 5, 1946, in Mississippi, to her beloved parents, John and Johnnie V. Thornton. For 46 years, she dedicated herself to her work at Jerry Lee's Grocery Store, where she also served as a bookkeeper. Mary brought joy to her life through simple pleasures; she cherished solving crossword puzzles, watching birds, tending to her garden, and loving her pets.

Mary is now reunited with her parents, John D. Thornton and Johnnie V. Thornton, as well as her brother, Bill Thornton, and sister, Bettye Sue Well, who preceded her in death. She leaves behind her loving sister, Brenda Glass, and her cherished nephews, Jason (Kellye) Glass, Jeffrey (Belenda) Thornton, and David (Amber) Thornton, along with her niece, Angela Lofton, and a wide circle of family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Holder-Wells & Coastal Funeral Homes and Cremations, located at 12800 Hwy 613, Moss Point, MS 39563. A heartfelt funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM at the same location, with Mary laid to rest at Gibson Cemetery in Lucedale, MS.

In honoring her memory, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Jackson County Animal Shelter, a cause that was close to Mary's heart.
