Obituary

Cynthia Odessa Lynd Dixon, of Grand Bay, Alabama, passed away on September 25, 2023 at the age of 93. In 1929, our Mother was born in Kreole, Mississippi. Shortly after, she and her family moved to Panama City, Florida. She graduated from Bay High in 1947, where she played the clarinet in the band and was a drum majorette.
She devoted herself to a 44-year career at International Paper, working at the Panama City, Natchez and Moss Point mills. It was at the Moss Point mill where she met our Daddy! She retired in 1991 as a Purchasing Supervisor and was a member of the Quarter-Century Society.
After retiring, she began a new chapter of her life, taking care of her Mother, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Grand Bay, since 1961, where she served on the Building, Finance and Hostess committees. She enjoyed working with Sharlene Sessions in the church office on Fridays, doing whatever she needed. She also loved being one of the "Snack Ladies" at VBS each year. Mother, Mary Taylor, Martha Nell Floore, Nola Kirk, and Jimmie Hall were devoted to making sure that the Homebound of First Baptist were visited on Fridays. She was a member of the church's "Golden Girls" exercise class where they would end their class with a Hardees biscuit!
Our most special times as a family were centered around birthdays, holidays and trips to the beach. Mama made the best Christmas meal EVER which we looked forward to every year! Our yearly trips to the beach were spent with Mother teaching all of her Grands and Great Grands the art of "hugga-buggin", which is catching sand crabs at night with a bucket and flashlight!
Without a doubt, we KNOW our Mama, our Grandmother, our GG has left us a legacy of love and devotion to GOD and family; oh that we can only hope to achieve the same!
She is preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bobby) Dixon; parents, Burnham and Annis Lynd; sister, Rosa Lynd Williams, brother, Edward E. Lynd; and granddaughter, Jillian Dixon Faggard.
She is survived by her three daughters, Rosalynd (Lee) Deakle, Cynthia (Butch) Woodham, and Bobbie (Denny) Faggard, grandchildren Chad (Kim) Deakle, Trey (Tara) Deakle, Lynn (Brandi) Nolen, Misty (Daniel) Eubanks, Bryan (Mindy) Woodham, Brad (Tiffany) Woodham, Matthew (Chelsea) Faggard, Gabe (Margot) Faggard, Zack Faggard; great-grandchildren Meagan (Joe) Cain, Mallory (Jessica) Deakle, McKenlee Deakle, Jada Deakle, Cody Deakle, Avery Nolen, Connor Eubanks, Caroline Eubanks, Brandon Woodham, Jesse Woodham, Brady Woodham, Kaden Horton, Kynsleigh Horton, Finn Faggard; great-great grandchildren Fletcher Cain, McCoy Cain and Lively Lowery. Special niece Kim (Barry) Patrick and family; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
We especially thank Urania Williams, Janie Hickson and staff (The Sanctuary House), the doctors and nurses of University Hospital Trauma ICU, for the loving care they gave our Mother.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Chad Deakle, Trey Deakle, Lynn Nolen, Bryan Woodham, Brad Woodham, and Matthew Faggard. Honorary Pallbearers will be grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
