Opal Lee Lynn passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 8, 2023. She recently celebrated her 90th birthday on January 26th. She was born in Leakesville, Mississippi to Raymond Arthur Hillman and Lille Mae Hillman. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Edwin C. Lynn and her older brother, Douglas Hillman.
Opal is survived by her two daughters, Dederia (Robert) Demouey, Karen (Bob) Krebs; One son, Scott (Jill) Lynn. Five Grandchildren, Dustin (Dylan) Demouey, Sean (Emily) Demouey, Lauren (Chris) Lane, Brittany (Richard) Hoffman, Brandon Barksdale; 11 great grandchildren, Seth Demouey, Ellie Demouey, Parker Demouey, Tyler Demouey, Aubrey Lane, Chasin Lane, Hannah Lane, Ayden Andrews, Grayson Ally, Gabby Hoffman, and Hadleigh Hoffman. She is also survived by her sister, Linda (Leo) Anderson. Opal was an amazing aunt to many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She cherished her special relationships with her sisters in laws and brother in laws and many friends.
Opal was employed at International Paper Company in the 1950's where she met her husband, Ed. After marriage, she became a full-time mother until she returned to work at Moss Point School System in the mid-70s. In 2005, she left her longtime residence of Moss Point, MS and moved to Vancleave, MS where she became a member of Pine Lake Baptist Church. Opal's life was devoted to her family. Her happiest moments were spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Although she would declare that she did not like to cook, she received her greatest joy in providing excellent meals for her family and friends. Everyone was welcome at her table, and no one ever left hungry. Her homemade biscuits and gumbo are legendary.
Visitation will be held Sunday, February 12 from 2-3 pm at Pine Lake Baptist Church located on Hwy 57 Vancleave, Mississippi. The funeral service will follow at 3 pm with Dr. Randall Cofield officiating. The burial will be at Serene Memorial Gardens in Moss Point, MS. Serving as pallbearers are grandsons Dustin Demouey, Sean Demouey, Brandon Barksdale, Chris Lane and great grandsons Ayden Andrews and Seth Demouey.
