Ruby Deen Quattlebaum, 92 of Pascagoula, MS passed away December 27, 2014 in Hurley, MS surrounded by her family. Ruby was born in Covington County, Mississippi to Houston H. and Dora Chance Deen. She was the first daughter of eight girls and grew up surrounded by love and family devoted to God. Soon after graduating high school, she moved to the Gulf Coast joining the war-time efforts of women at Ingalls Shipbuilding. Remembering the valuable training and work ethic at home, she always supported her family and never forgot her roots growing up on a farm in Covington County. Soon after World War II was over, she married a returning veteran, Robert Nelson Quattlebaum. Due to the untimely death of his mother, they became guardians of Robert's younger brother, Paul Quattlebaum. They later celebrated the birth of three daughters. Robert and Ruby established their home in the Bayou Casotte Community and were active members at Eastlawn United Methodist Church and later Faith United Methodist Church. While Robert operated his business, Quattlebaum Appliance Service, Ruby assisted with office duties and accounting, loving her main role of mother and homemaker. Later, due to her husband's illness, her role changed to employment with BVD Manufacturing. Remaining there until closing, she opened a family day care in her home and was affectionately referred to as "Mama Quad." Hurricane Katrina destroyed her Pascagoula home, and she relocated to the Big Point community to live with her daughter and son- in- law. She attended Big Point United Methodist Church when her health permitted. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert N. Quattlebaum, her parents and four sisters: Aletha Brinson, Gettie Gentry, Doris Johnson, and Olevia Deen. Mrs. Quattlebaum is survived by her three daughters: Bobbie (Lincoln) Lee, Dean (Ken) Ross, Judy (David) Couch; five grandchildren: Chris (Melynda) Ross, Jamie (Roger) Russell, Staci (Thomas) Browning, Amanda Lee, Sara Couch; and four great grandchildren: Avery Ross, Logan Browning, Presley Ross, and Carter Browning; brother- in- law Paul Quattlebaum; three sisters Billie Odum, Baton Rouge, Evelyn (Glyn) Draughn, Pascagoula; Cornelia (Charlie) Easterling, Collins; niece Rita (Carl) Smith, Mobile; and sister- in- law Cornelia Quattlebaum Howard, South Carolina. Pallbearers will be Roger Russell, Dale Odum, Johnny Bowman, Jonathan Bowman, Glynn Bowman, and Mike Easterling. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 31st, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. from the funeral home chapel. Burial will follow in Serene Gardens Cemetery in Moss Point, MS.
