Obituary

Ruth Hanna Victoria Streed Ramsay died peacefully at home on March 9,2021. She was born to Swedish immigrants on June 8,1918 in Springfield, MA. Her early childhood was spent in Springfield, MA and Pascagoula, MS. She graduated from Pascagoula High School with the highest GPA in her class but was not recognized as Valedictorian because she had only attended PHS for two years.
She was disappointed that her accomplishment was not published in the newspaper. It is now! She attended Whitworth College and Louisiana State University on full scholarships. After receiving an English degree from LSU, she was hired to teach English at Vancleave High School where she boarded at Etta Ramsay's home. She met the love of her life when Etta's son, Vertis, decided it was time to move back home. They were married February 14,1942 and had four children.
After raising her children, she worked with her husband, Vertis, at the Jackson County Circuit Clerk's Office as a Deputy Circuit Clerk. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula and taught Sunday School for many years. Upon their retirement, they were able to travel extensively, attend Mississippi State ballgames, walk in the woods, and enjoy life.
She was predeceased by her parents Olaf Victor Streed and Elsa Holm Streed, her husband Vertis Glenn Ramsay, her brothers William Streed and Victor Streed, her sister Isabel Streed Devine and her two sons, Stewart Holm Ramsay (Phyllis) and Robert Glenn Ramsay.
