Samson "Sammy" Wilkerson, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 29, 2025. A resident of Harleston for 52 years, Sammy was a 1961 graduate of Pascagoula High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Naval Reserves, including a deployment during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Throughout his career, he was a dedicated and hardworking self-employed business owner.
Sammy had a deep passion for classic vehicles, rock and roll music, and spending time with his family. His faith was an important part of his life-he was a member of Rosedale Methodist Church and also attended Hurley Methodist.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Samson Sr. and Enda Inez Wilkerson; his sisters, Kathleen Pope, Patricia Albritton, and Johnnette Wilkerson; his mother-in-law, Lanola Ezell Coker Galloway Hedman; his brother-in-law, James Albritton; his nephew, James Michael Albritton; and his brother and sister-in-law, Edward and Mary Anne Coker.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his wife of 60 years, Joyce, and their sons: Shawn (Amy), Shea (Alicia), and Shannon (Gwen). He was a proud grandfather to Shea McL Wilkerson, Logan (Trey) Labat, Landon (Hannah) Wilkerson, Allen (Morgan) Wilkerson, Kathleen, and Samantha Wilkerson, and a doting great-grandfather to Khaleesi, Lucas, Brody, Olivia, and Harper. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Deaconess Home Health & Hospice, especially Kim, Becky, Lisa, Zack, Hannah, Patty, Ashley, and Brittany, for their compassionate care, love, and support during this time. Sammy loved each of you dearly.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 4th, at Hurley Methodist Church, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m.
