Shirley Huckaby, age 87, of Pascagoula, Mississippi, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Saturday, February 22, 2025, in Gulfport, Mississippi. She was the cherished wife of the late Billy Howard Huckaby. Her love and dedication as a homemaker greatly enriched the lives of her family and those around her. She was a Granny/Nanny to everyone, never missing the opportunity to hold, feed, or bounce a precious little one on her lap.
Born on August 28, 1937, in Georgetown, Mississippi, Shirley was the loving daughter of Julius and Elmer Lea Jackson Berry. She is now reunited with her parents, her loving husband of 42 years, and her beloved sons, Stephen Huckaby and Baby Boy Huckaby, as well as her dear siblings: Mary McMahan, Christine Berry, B. F. Berry, Earl Berry, J. C. Berry, Hugh Berry, Cecil Berry, Otis Berry, and Wayne Berry, all of whom she dearly missed.
Shirley's sassy spirit, infectious laughter, giving nature, and warmth live on through her beloved children: Jeff Huckaby, Lisa Huckaby, Teresa (Thomas) Burrows, and daughter-in-law, Mara Huckaby. She also leaves behind her 8 grandchildren: Kim Huckaby, Billy (Amanda) Huckaby, Ryan Huckaby, Christian (Brian) Buechner, Dennis (Ashley) Wise, Justin Sanders, Kaycee Sanders, and Tarah Burrows. She also leaves her 6 great grandchildren: Breanna Huckaby, Katy Rich, Sophie Buechner, Dalton Buechner, Elliott Wise, and Emerson Wise, as well as a host of special nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who were fortunate to know her.
A gentle soul, Shirley found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was a fishing trip with Bill, having afternoon coffee with family or friends, cooking special meals, playing slots, feeding all the neighborhood stray cats, or working on the latest crossword puzzle. Yet her greatest joy came from simply being with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, whose laughter and love filled her world.
We invite you to join us in honoring her beautiful life during visitation from 12 PM to 1 PM on Friday, February 28, 2025, at Holder Wells Funeral Home, Moss Point, Mississippi, followed by a heartfelt service at 1 PM. Her Pallbearers will be acknowledged during the service. A graveside ceremony will take place at 2:30 PM at Machpelah Cemetery.
