Stewart Holm Ramsay of Pascagoula, Mississippi, passed away on January 12, 2018, at his home in Pascagoula. Stewart was born on December 31, 1943, to Vertis Glenn Ramsay and Ruth Streed Ramsay. He was preceded in death by his father Vertis Glenn Ramsay and his brother Robert Glenn Ramsay. Stewart is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Phyllis Haarala Ramsay; his mother Ruth Streed Ramsay; his three stepsons Randall (Karen) Haarala of Ocean Springs, MS; Richard (Terri) Haarala of Frisco, TX; Marc (Shelly) Haarala of Frisco, TX; his grandchildren Zachary (Kelsey) Haarala; Hannah Haarala; Regan Haarala; Ethan Haarala; Olivia Haarala; Emma Haarala; Hayden Haarala; and his great grandson Brayden Haarala. Stewart is also survived by his two sisters Vicki (Wayne) Adkison and Ariel (Austin) Taylor and numerous nieces and nephews.
Stewart joined First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Pascagoula-Moss Point in 1969 as a bookkeeper and Executive Vice President. In 1978 he became President and CEO and held such titles until his retirement in 2011, at which time he was elected Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Stewart had a heart for his community and served on several boards such as the Mississippi League of Savings Institutions, the Advisory Committee of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College Foundation, Pascagoula Kiwanis Club, and the Boys and Girls Club of Jackson and George Counties. He was named Ducks Unlimited Sportsman of the Year and was named King of Joy for the Young Men's Business Club of Moss Point.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 15, 2018, from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. at First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula. Funeral service will immediately follow at the church. Interment will be held at Vancleave Cemetery #1 in Vancleave.
Serving as pallbearers are Zachary Haarala, Ethan Haarala, Ramsay Taylor, Patrick Ramsay, Daniel Ramsay, and Todd Lynn.
Serving as junior pallbearers are Hayden Haarala and Brayden Haarala.
Honorary pallbearers are Buddy Godfrey, Larry Moorehead, George Tomlinson, Greg Tingle, Weldon Perkins, Alan Renfroe, Claude Stauter, and the Board of Directors of First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Pascagoula-Moss Point.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his memory to the First United Methodist Church of Pascagoula Building Fund, P. O. Box 371, Pascagoula, MS 39568.
