Virgil "Wayne" Powell, age 85, of Moss Point, Mississippi, passed away on October 30, 2025
at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on June 14, 1940, in Oloh, Mississippi
to Virgil and Vera Powell.

Wayne moved to the coast seeking employment in 1958 . He later began his career at Ingalls Shipbuilding, where he rose the ranks from laborer to supervisor in Engineering.

In addition to his parents and sister, Louida Whiddon, Wayne was preceded in death by his stepson, Daryl Turner, his brothers Robert Powell, Eddie Powell and Fred Powell.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Jeanette Brown Powell; Daughters, Vera Mason and Vonda (Robin) Morrison; Grandchildren, Channing (Gina) Mason, Katelyn Hathorn, Cody (Kaleigh) Mason, Blake (Mason) Phillips, Kaleb Mason, Robby Morrison, Lindsay ( Allen) Reitz; Great grandchildren, Natalee Mason, Gavin Mason, Harleigh (Cody) Pike, Alia McNaughton, Bryar Hathorn, Kaynaan Hathorn, Sypar Hathorn, Carson Mason, Kolson Mason, Karleigh Morrison, Blakely Morrison, Paisley Morrison, Dakota Reitz and Dallas Reitz; Great great grandchild, Clay Pike, and a host of other close family and friends who will deeply miss him.

Wayne was devoted to his faith and made it a priority to attend church and to raise his family in church. He loved spending time outdoors, especially deer hunting. He cherished every moment with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He found great joy in being "Pawpaw". He was always there to lend a helping hand to family and friends and anyone needing help in his community. He will be remembered for his humor, his love for family, his faith and the many good times he shared with those around him.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the care given by Deaconess Hospice and to all of the family and friends who have offered their love, support, and kindness during this difficult time.

Visitation will be held October 31, 2025 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM at Holder-Wells & Coastal Funeral Home In Moss Point, Mississippi. Funeral Service will follow in the chapel at 12:00 PM with Bro Walter Vacik and Bro Pete' Harrell officiating. Burial to follow at Serene Memorial Gardens in Moss Point, Mississippi.

Serving as Pallbearers, Channing Mason, Cody Mason, Kaleb Mason, Gavin Mason, Robby Morrison, and Robin Morrison. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers are Clint Thomas, Jess Thomas, Phillip Thomas, Mason Phillips and, Allen Reitz.

In lieu of flowers, contribution may be directed to the Escatawpa Baptist Church.
