Mr. Virgil Elbert Wilkerson 81, of Escatawpa, MS passed away on October 6,2022 in Pascagoula, MS. Mr. Wilkerson was born on May 18,1941 in Jackson County, MS and was a lifelong resident. He was retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding after 29 years of dedicated service. He also worked as a security guard at the rest areas on I-10 in Jackson County..Woodworking was his passion, and he was so good at it that people would brag about his woodworking skills. He often made birdhouses and wooden woodpeckers for his friends and family. He enjoyed camping, fishing and throwing his cast net.
Mr. Wilkerson is preceded in death by his wife Violet Wilkerson, his son Jack R. Wilkerson, his parents Loren and Vernie Wilkerson, his brothers Rev. Neal Wilkerson and Rev. Delbert Wilkerson.
He is survived by his sister Betty (Robert) Powell, nieces Lesa (Charles) Decuir, Cathy (Donald) Shumack,
Carole Vance, Letha Cook, Peggy Brooks, and Cindy Wilkerson,his nephews Melvin (Amy) Joel, Toby Wilkerson,Darrel Wilkerson and Warren Wilkerson. He is also survived by his longtime friends Donna, Jim, Bobby, Harry and numerous great nieces, great nephews and other relatives.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm Sunday October 9,2022 at Griffin cemetery in Moss Point, MS with Rev. Rodney Coleman officiating.
