Alice Cole Tomlinson Freeman Shaw Beasley (November 9, 1932 – May 20, 2013) Alice Cole Tomlinson Freeman Shaw Beasley, 80, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2013. She was born in Jackson County and was a native of Vancleave, MS. She is preceded in death by her parents Leonard Cole and Sophie “Tillman” Cole, her previous husbands, her brothers Kenneth and John Cole, sister Barbara Holden, sister-in-law Jenny Cole and brothers-in-law Bobby Holden and Donald McMillan. She is survived by the light of her life, her husband Joel “Pete” Beasley of Vancleave; children John Russell Tomlinson of Flint, MI, Paul Roger Tomlinson and Amy (Doug) Honeycutt, both of Vancleave; grandchildren, Sarah (Dan) Taylor of Liverpool, NY, Steven Tomlinson of Flint, MI, and Thomas Cox of Vancleave; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Derl (Suzie) Cole of Vancleave, Jim (Sandra) Cole of Poplarville, David Cole of Escatawpa and Paul (Mary Lee) Cole of Hurley; sisters, Colleen McMillan, Janet (Frank) Burt and Tommy June (Curtis) Wilson, all of Vancleave and Patsy (Jeff) Cheek of Soldotna, Alaska. Alice was a born teacher, the second oldest of 12 surviving children. She chose education as her life’s career, most of it teaching at Vancleave Middle School from where she retired. She was devoted to God and her Church, the Community of Christ in Vancleave, and was an active member of the priesthood regularly visiting those to whom God led her. She was a counselor to many throughout her life and is fondly remembered by many for her willingness to take that “extra step” and her patience when assisting or mentoring them. Alice was mischievous and usually had a twinkle in her eye. When she visited with someone, they could count on laughing at some point. She loved blooming flowers and was excited with the blooming of her “little church” community. While she would love to be surrounded by floral bouquets, she would also love to have donations to the Building Fund of the Community of Christ Church of Vancleave so she can continue to help with their growth. Her passing is mourned, but Church services will be a celebration of her life. Wear bright colors, see her eyes twinkle and feel her smile down from Heaven. She sends a special thanks to Brenda Myers and St. Joseph’s Hospice. Visitation will be held at Community of Christ Church in Vancleave, MS at 1:30 p.m. with a Funeral Service following at 3:00 p.m. Interment will be at the adjoining cemetery. Officiating will be Elder Jo Ann Lutes and Speaker will be Elder Wake Inabinette. Pall bearers will be: Thomas Cox, Tyler Fountain, Wes Cole, Wendell Cole, Chris Cole and Joshua Holden.
