Betty Jane Foster Roberts

Betty Jane Foster Roberts, age 89, of Gautier went to be with her Lord and was reunited with her high school sweetheart and husband, Bill, on Saturday, August 3, 2013 in Gautier, MS. She was born July 17, 1924 in St. Joseph, Missouri and has been a resident of Gautier for 63 years. She moved to Pascagoula with her family from Birmingham, Alabama and entered the ninth grade at Pascagoula High School. Betty Jane or “BJ” as she was known by her fellow classmates was a great basketball player, band member and very active in clubs and ongoing activities. She graduated with the PHS class of 1943. Mrs. Roberts began work while still in the tenth grade with “Pop” Khayat, at Khayat’s Grocery in Pascagoula. She worked many years for Estabrook Ford and Bob Burnham Pontiac/Toyota as Office Manager, and the last several years before her retirement worked for Dale Harkey in the District Attorney’s office. She was a long time active member of First Baptist Church of Gautier and served as church treasurer and Sunday School teacher for many years She was a feisty and fun loving lady who enjoyed bowling, playing cards with her girl friends, camping, Mardi Gras season, bingo and pulling for the New Orleans Saints. Above all, “Mam Maw” enjoyed dancing and playing games with her grandchildren. Mrs. Roberts is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years William T. (Bill) Roberts; Parents Walter B. Foster and Florence Foster; Brothers Leroy and Leo Foster. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Betty (Ronnie) Knight; Son William T. (Billy) Roberts, Jr., all of Gautier; Three Grandchildren, Terri (Tom) Schoemann, Ron (Caroline) Knight, Johnnette (Ted) Bilbo; Ten Great Grandchildren, Jaynie Quave, Noel Quave, Matt Schoemann, Jaclyn Schoemann, Sarah Margaret Knight, Charlotte Knight, Hailey Furlan, Jacob Bilbo, Wyatt Bilbo, Sawyer Bilbo; numerous nieces and nephews, church family and many dear friends. Pall bearers will be her nephews; Mike Foster, Rex Foster, Johnny Foster, Pete Norris, Mark Faucett, Harry Roberts, Milton Seymour and John Trussell. Visitation will be held Wednesday, August 7, 2013 from 9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Gautier. Funeral services will follow at 10:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Gautier with Bro. Billy Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Pinecrest Cemetery, Gautier, MS.
