Clyde Arthur Oliver Sr.

The Lord opened his arms to embrace Clyde Arthur Oliver, Sr. into eternal peace on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at his home in Escatawpa, Mississippi. He is survived by his wife of 11 years and 11 months, Amy Louise Sherman-Oliver; three sons: Clyde Arthur Oliver, Jr. (Sharon) Ocala, Florida; William Vance Oliver, Escatawpa, Mississippi; Jefferson Kelly Oliver, Freeport, Florida; five grandchildren, William Dean Oliver (Allison), Greenville, North Carolina; Kelli Edria Oliver, Allston, Massachusetts; Kevin Vance Oliver, Burlington, North Carolina; Jacob Wesley Oliver and Joshua Samuel Oliver, Freeport, Florida. Pets: Ellie, Bobo and Kitty. Brother, William Dowe Oliver, Benndale, Mississippi and numerous other relatives, friends' grand dogs and grand cats. In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd Vance Oliver; and sister, Vivian Odessa Oliver. Clyde was born in Jackson County Mississippi on February 5, 1931. He loved his family and his way of showing his love was by cooking. He was the best cook' He was well known for his seafood gumbo and banana pudding. Clyde was a proud Navy Veteran of Special Forces for four years and was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Korean Service Medal He served on the USS MENIFEE and still had a close relationship with his shipmates. He retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding as an Engineer. He loved to garden and work with wood. He was a kind, gentle man who loved serving the Lord. He is greatly missed! Visitation will be Thursday, October 8, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Holder Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, Mississippi. A visitation will be held at the Community of Christ on Dan Sherman Road in Moss Point, Mississippi on Friday, October 9, 2015 beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service following at 11:00 with Elder Billy Graham and Elder John Lee officiating. Interment to conclude at the Biloxi National Cemetery, Biloxi, Mississippi at 1:30 pm. Special Thanks to the Community of Christ church family, Biloxi VA, 81st Medical Group Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, MS and his shipmates from the USS MENIFEE. Active pallbearers will include; Daniel Sherman, Danny Boykin, Darryl Boykin, Truitt Williams, Perry Smith, and Bob Nusko. Honorary pallbearer will be Jimmy Miles.
