Corinne Ricker

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Corinne Martin Ricker, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great-Grandmother, at the age of 100 after a long and full life of devotion to her family. Corinne’s entrance into Heaven was preceded by her husband of over fifty-five years, Charles Henry, in 1992, and her infant daughter, Ann Elizabeth, in 1943. Mom was born near Summit, Mississippi, in 1913 to Annie Stevenson Martin and Joseph T. Martin, and grew up on a small farm there. After graduation from high school, she moved to Moss Point to take up a career as a hairdresser, which she loved. Shortly afterwards she met and married Charles Henry, and they moved to Pascagoula, where he was employed at Ingalls Shipbuilding Company. After the birth of her first child, she gave up her career to dedicate her life to being a loving and devoted wife and mother. She was enormously proud of her children’s successes and accomplishments, in particular the fact that they all graduated from college. For Corinne, education was paramount - she always told her children, “It’s not IF you go to college, it’s WHEN you go to college.” Her memory will be cherished by her children: Charles Henry Jr. (Pat), Jackie Emile (Jane), and Pamela Sue (Hellmuth); her grandchildren: Cynthia Nerlinger, Brent Ricker, Michael Ricker, Daryn Ricker (Linda), Courtney Dale (Dan), Jennifer Queen, and Thomas Hinz (Jessica); her great-grandchildren: Madison Collier, Jordan Ricker, Delia Ricker, Scotty Ricker, Emily Ricker, Jack Dale, Fred Dale, Daryn Ricker II, Charlie Queen, Brooks Queen, and Kairi Hinz; and her great-great grandchild: Avery Collier. Mom enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilt-making, reading, crossword puzzles, Elvis, baseball, and, perhaps most of all – ice cream! She attributed her love of ice cream to a family tradition: every Sunday afternoon her mother would bake a cake and her father would churn up ice cream in a hand-crank ice cream maker as a special treat for the family. The daughter of a great cook, Mom always looked forward to family gatherings where she could exhibit her own mastery of cooking. Her fried chicken, fried potatoes, fried shrimp, gumbo, pies, and German Chocolate Cake were all legendary. A lifelong Methodist, Corinne cherished her Church Circle meetings, which she attended regularly until Hurricane Katrina forced her from her home of over forty years. She lived her final years in Austin, Texas, and Biloxi, but often commented about how much she missed living in Moss Point and attending Circle meetings with her friends. Thank you Mom – you lived a life full of love, laughter, and service to your family and that family will miss you forever!! Corinne’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Holder-Wells Funeral Home at 4007 Main Street in Moss Point, with Pastor Eddie Kirby officiating. Visitation will be at 11:00 and the service will start at noon, followed by interment at the Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula. Pallbearers will be Brent Ricker, Daryn Ricker, Mike Ricker, Donald Williamson, Pat Russum, and Larry Stringer. Arrangements by Holder-Wells Funeral Home.
