Mrs. Dortha Miller

Mrs. Dortha Mae Peacock Smith Miller, age 81, died peacefully on Monday, May 9, 2016. She was born on February 25, 1935 in Hagerman, New Mexico to the late Jesse and Mae Peacock. She lived in Jackson County the majority of her life and worked at International Paper Company in Moss Point. She worked as a dispatcher at Moss Point Police Department until she retired. Miss Dot, as she was known to many, was a member of East Moss Point Baptist Church. She will be especially remembered for being a very outgoing, sweet, caring and gentle lady, a loving mother, friend, and confidant to her son, daughter, grandchildren and a mentor to all. Dot always made anyone that visited her home feel welcome and comfortable. She had a beautiful singing voice. She sang for the church and a number of weddings. Dot was very well accomplished in American Sign Language, and for years signed in church for the deaf ministry. As her life touched so many others, it is impossible to know how many people, family, friends, and strangers alike had their lives enriched by simply knowing Dot. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Mae Peacock, twin sisters, Ailene Green of Roswell, New Mexico and Madge Powell of Slidell, Louisiana, brother, Winston Peacock of Hobbs, New Mexico, and two husbands, L. Sidney Smith and Melvin Miller. She leaves behind to mourn her passing, son, Len Smith and daughter, Sandra Smith Walters of Gautier, Mississippi, five brothers, Lloyd (Mary) Peacock of Lovington, New Mexico, Foney (Teresa) Peacock of Lubbock, Texas, Kenneth (Darlene) Peacock of Lucedale, Mississippi, Glen Peacock of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Deward Peacock of Fort Smith, Arkansas, daughter-in-law, Jeaney Miller of Moss Point, Mississippi, and numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 from 12:30pm to 2:00pm at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 2:00pm at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS. Interment will immediately follow at Griffin Cemetery in Moss Point, MS with Reverend Richard Crews officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to celebrate Dot’s life. She wanted her friends and family to be joyous that she has gone home to be with her Lord and Savior and not sad at her passing.
