Eloise Doswell Holden

Mrs. Eloise Doswell Holden, age 80, of Vancleave, MS passed away Tuesday, June 15,2010 at home surrounded by her family and friends. Mrs. Holden was a member of First Baptist Church of Vancleave. She was born July 19, 1929 in Marianna, Florida to her parents David Hunter and Julia Augusta Rodgers Doswell. Mrs. Holden was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years S.T. Holden, sons Ted and Darren Holden and daughter Connie Holden. She was also preceded in death by both parents, and sisters Myrtice Spillers, Edna Lokey, Bessie Kiker and Doris McArthur. Mrs. Holden is survived by children Sue (Bill) Mount of Circleville, Ohio, Marsha (Gary) Miller, Alan (Lori) Holden and Kevin (Penny) Holden all of Vancleave. Also by grandchildren Jeff (Susan) Mount of Mobile, AL; Kim (Chris) Chong of Lancaster, OH; Lynn (Julie) Miller, Jeremy Miller, Russ, Megan and Simon Holden of Vancleave; Mindy (Paul) Drake of Brandon, MS; Hollie Brown of Hurley; and April Davis of Moss Point. Great-grandchildren surviving her are Marleigh Savell, Maxwell and Addison Miller of Vancleave; Kyle and Noah Brown of Hurley, Jerod and Samantha Young, Colin Mount and Brendan Chong of Lancaster, OH; Dalton and Hunner Drake of Sulfur, LA. She has one brother, J.D. Doswell of Ocean Springs and two dear sisters-in-law, Merle Doswell and Estelle Peterson of Vancleave who survive her. She also has numerous nieces, nephews and friends who loved her dearly. Funeral services will include visitation at Holder-Wells Funeral Home on Thursday, June 17th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. and her funeral service will be at Mt. Pleasant Methodist Church on Friday, June 18th. Visitation will begin at 1 :00 p.m. with the service following at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Rev. Robbie Murden and Elder JoAnn Lutes will preside. Charlie Tanner will offer special music for Mrs. Holden. Mother's request for pallbearers to give her that final ride home were some of her school bus boys over the 37 years of her tenure as bus driver for Vancleave Schools. She loved each of them dearly. They are Phillip McMillan, Ethan Holden, Andrew Woods, Josh Barton and nephews Terry Peterson and Billy Doswell. An avid fisherman, brave soul and collector of gifts (mostly friends), our mother will be remembered as a strong southern lady. She never refused anyone in need and could love the unlovely. She relied on her faith in God and emphasized that we are no one's judge, taught us each to love life, to respect one another, to have fun and laugh often, to forgive, to help our neighbor, to be patient, to work hard and to strive to be kind and modest. She did all of this by example, not words, and we will always adore and remember her for those life's lessons she let each of us experience. Her family would like to express thanks to SRHS Hospice of Light, especially to her nurse Teri Mizelle, for their help and support over the last few weeks.
