Mr. Herman Jesse Rushing, Jr.

Mr. Herman Jesse Rushing Jr., 93, of Pascagoula, MS passed away on March 23, 2016. He was born on November 2, 1922 in Tylertown, MS to the late Herman Jessie Rushing Sr. and Lessie Smith Rushing. Mr. Rushing moved to Pascagoula in 1956, opened the City Shoe Shop on Ingalls Ave., and from there, he moved to Hospital Street. He also opened the second City Shoe Shop in Gautier. He was famous for his fishing skills and had many friends who shared his love of fishing. He held many records in fishing rodeos that were once held in Pascagoula. He would shut the doors on the Shoe Shop when the fish were calling. He retired when he was 65. He fished every day throughout his life with his buddies, Jack, Tucie, Roy, Wayne, Dwight, John, and Tim until he was no longer able. As a proud veteran, Mr. Rushing served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of Fairhaven Primitive Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his wife, Margie Lee Graves Rushing, daughter, Debra Joyce Waller Blades, and siblings, Rufus Rushing, Bill Rushing, Sarah Alice Rushing Ware Sagor, and Willie Elisha. He is survived by children, Randy (Kim) Rushing, Sherry (David) Sanders Glazier, Herman Rushing III, Zandra (C.B.) McLeod Wright, Joel (Ruth) Rushing, and Jill Rushing, siblings, James Rushing, Donald Rushing, Smith (Rachel) Rushing, Paul Rushing, Jerry (Bobbi) Rushing, Joyce Rushing Odom, Beth (Jim) Rushing Morrow, Maureen (Harlan) Rushing Spence, and Lessie Mae Rushing Parker Rawls, sisters in law, Nevon Rushing and Shirley Rushing, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other close family and friends. A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS. The family of Mr. Rushing will be having a reception in his honor at the VFW Post #3373 located at 4765 Vega Street, Pascagoula, MS following the reception.
