Hoyte Sherrill Nelson

Hoyte Sherrill Nelson of Pascagoula went home to be with the Lord on Friday, February 26, 2010 at We Care Hospice in Moss Point at the age of 66. He has finally won his longtime battle with cancer and is completely healed. Sherrill was born in Tylertown, Mississippi on June 15, 1943 to Hoyte and Jean Nelson. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Nelson of Pascagoula; children, Carol Bennett of Ocean Springs, Van Nelson of Lexington, Dana Nelson of Vancleave and Whitney Nelson of Hattiesburg; step-daughter, Leann Anthony of Pascagoula; grandchildren, Austin and Corey Bennett, Jessica and Christopher Nelson and Brandon Anthony; great-grandchildren, Jayce Bennett and Colin Ingram; parents, Hoyte and Jean Nelson of Slidell, Louisiana; siblings, Jan Suggs of Durant, Oklahoma, Dickie Nelson of Richmond, Virginia, Debbie McClelland of Slidell, Louisiana and Mona Nelson of Carriere; mother-in-law, Ora Lewis of Gulfport; sisters-in-law, Kim Morgan of Ocean Springs, Brenda James and Shirley Ramon both of Gulfport; and his cat and good companion, Bootsie. Sherrill was a retired businessman. He was the previous owner of DMN Electric in Pascagoula. He enjoyed golfing and crossword puzzles. He was a 1961 graduate of Picayune High School where he played on the Picayune Maroon Tide football team. Sherrill loved sports and enjoyed watching football. He was a Manning fan. Visitation will be on Monday, March 1, 2010 from 10:00 until 11:00am at First Baptist Church in Pascagoula. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am from the church with Rev. Dickie Nelson and Rev. Terrell Suggs officiating. Sherrill's body will be laid to rest at Griffin Cemetery in Moss Point. Pallbearers will be Austin Bennett, Corey Bennett, Christopher Nelson, Jim Morgan, Monte Suggs, and Jamie Graham. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. The family would like to thank Southern Care Hospice of Lucedale for their unending help and support during Sherrill's fight.
