Pinkard Casus Hull “Buster” Patterson, Jr., 99, went to be with his Lord & Savior on March 2nd, 2013 surrounded by family members and loved ones at his home in Helena, Mississippi. He was born on August 20th, 1913 to Hull and Estelle Patterson of Saucier, Mississippi. Buster was an true example of a hard-working Godly, family man who cared dearly for his wife and loved ones. Buster is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Eula Vee “Vice” Patterson and their daughters Ester (Herman, Sr.) Dykes of Harleston, Mississippi; Martha (Tommy) Krebs of Helena, Mississippi; Jeanette (Rodney) Smith of Moselle, Mississippi; and Pat (Alfred) Cook of Agricola, Mississippi. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 26 great-great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents Hull & Estelle Patterson of Saucier, MS; his brothers J.T., Cecil, and Jack Patterson and sister, Rosilee Devereaux. Buster and his family moved to Moss Point, MS to work at Dantzler Lumber Yard in 1933. Buster joined his father in work at the lumber yard for a few years. He soon met the love of his life and married Eula Vee Vice on September 18th, 1937. He worked as a mill wright at Ingalls Shipyard for several years including during World War II. He was 32nd degree Mason of the Moss Point Lodge #202 F&AM. He had a deep love for Helena Presbyterian Church as assisted in the establishment of the church in 1947. He also held the role as an elder since the late 1940s. Buster worked a variety of construction jobs in the Gulf coast area until he retired in 1988 at the young age of 75. Besides his passion for his wife and family, Buster enjoyed fishing, and Atlanta Braves baseball. He was often known as “Bass Buster” by many of his fishing buddies as his call-sign on CB radio. Sleep was never an option during Braves baseball as listening or watching to the final out was always a top priority. He was also an avid gardener. Buster could be found atop a McCormick Farmall Cub tractor during the Spring and Harvest seasons plowing his fields and producing crops for his family and friends. Potatoes were plentiful around the Patterson home as grand children and great-grandchildren were always close behind assisting in digging and of course eating fresh-cut french fries. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from ten o’clock to twelve o’clock on the morning of March 4, 2013 at Helena Presbyterian Church. The memorial Celebration service will begin shortly after the visitation. Services will be conducted by Rodney Smith, Leslie Rhodes, and Keith Kirkwood. Pallbearers for the Memorial Service will be Mr. Patterson’s grandsons: Herman Dykes, Jr., Tommy Krebs, Jr., Kelvin Dykes, Tim Cook, Steve Smith, Kerry Dykes, and Keith Dykes. “Thinking about one of the best men to ever walk this Earth. My great-grandaddy Patterson. 99 years old and good as gold. There is no better role model than this guy. He is a true inspiration. Love you!”-Patrick Lowery (Great Grandson)
