Mrs. Joyce Lindsey Jones

Joyce Green Lindsey Jones, the matriarch of the Lindsey family, passed away on February 23, 2023. Joyce, also known by her family as “Nanny,” was born on April 5, 1927 in Jackson County, MS to her late parents, Lamar Hess Green and Nona Nita Roberts Green; she was blessed with life for 95 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years and the Father of their children, Daniel “Dan” Ford Lindsey, Sr; her son, Daniel “Danny” Ford Lindsey, Jr; three of her sisters, Bethel Robertson, Ellen “Bobby” Wilks, and Emma Lee Alexander. She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Joseph Paul Jones, her daughter, Rebecca “Becky” Lindsey Fairley (James Kerr), her son, Mark Ellis Lindsey (Beth), her daughter-in-law, Pamela Watson Lindsey, and stepson, Joseph “Joey” Paul Jones, Jr. (Alice); her sisters, Jazie Torjuson, Betty Jo Boutwell and Linda Bullock; her grandchildren, Kerr Fairley (Ellen), Lindsey Fairley Ehle (Douglas), Mark Ellis Lindsey, Forrest Lindsey, Daniel Ford Lindsey, III, and Jordan Jones (Taylor), Hunter Jones (Anne), Catherine Jones McIntosh (Patrick), along with beautiful great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Joyce grew up in a large family in Kreole, MS. She had seven amazing sisters whom she loved very much (she actually had six biological sisters, but always claimed her best friend, Bernice Carpenter, as her “other” sister). She spent 70 years of her life in Kreole, before moving to Mobile, AL. During her high school years, she was known for teaching many how to dance on the dance floor and was an excellent dance partner at multiple occasions. Joyce is greatly known for teaching many generations at her established Mother Goose Kindergarten in Kreole for 25 years. To this day, numerous students remember how caring she was and disciplined them by making them sit on her infamous “Be Bad Bench.” No matter where she traveled, locally or throughout the United States, she always had one of her past students recognize her and yell, “Miss Lindsey.” They would quickly come to introduce themselves and give her an embracing hug. After closing her kindergarten, Joyce went to work for Riemann’s Funeral Home as a sales consultant selling advanced funeral arrangements. Her determination propelled her from a kindergarten teacher to a top sales consultant for many years. During her full age of 60, Joyce was found daily calling on numerous clients to help them be prepared. She was located at the office next door to Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS for about ten years. Many years before her Husband, Dan, passed away, they decided to purchase property and build what is known as “The Camp” on Belle Fountain Beach in Ocean Springs. They used it for their summer family vacations and short get-aways. This is where their children and many others learned how to fish, crab, flounder, maneuver boats and much more. The camp is where floundering became one of Joyce’s most favorite things to do. On the best nights and incoming tide, one would find her walking the beach with a gig, propane-fueled flounder light and a stringer to drag along her catch. During the day, she may be picking freshly caught crab, or cooking fantastic meals; she was full of energy! Cooking was her next favorite thing to do. Joyce was known for cooking great gumbo, potato salad, and was one of the best pie makers around (with the BEST crust). She, along with others, made 100s of pies each year for various events, particularly for the Jackson County fair booth for Kreole Methodist Church. Joyce faithfully attended Kreole Methodist for about 50 years. She had a firm belief in going to church and raising her children to make sure they had the knowledge of God. She had a beautiful spirit of giving and helping others. In her final days, she may not have been able to have lengthy discussions, but she still had great hearing capabilities. When asked to say the Lord’s Prayer and 23rd Psalms, she was able to speak them without hesitation; a perfect example of how she engraved the word of God upon the tables of her heart. Celebration of life for our sweet Joyce “Nanny” will be held on Friday, March 3, 2023, at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS. Visitation will be from 1:00pm to 2:00pm, and service will be held in the chapel at 2:00pm. Services will be officiated by Rev. Chip Hale and Rev. Bill Price. Interment will follow at Orange Grove Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband, Dan Lindsey. Pallbearers will be Kerr Fairley, Mark Ellis Lindsey, Forrest Lindsey, Daniel Lindsey, III, Jordan Jones, and Kenny Robertson.
