Leon Rupert Cirlot

Leon Rupert (Rip) Cirlot, 80, born March 10, 1928, was a life long resident of Moss Point, MS, went to be with his Lord on September 25, 2008. He was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi where he met his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Marie Holifield of Laurel, Ms. He graduated from Moss Point High School where he served as Senior Class President.He was a member of Dantzler Memorial Methodist Church of Moss Point where he was recognized November 2007 as the longest now living member of the church along with Warren Sutthoff. He was presented a plaque in 2004 for 62 years of singing in the Chancel Choir. He served on many positions of the church including board chairman, youth MYF President, and taught the Menâ??s Sunday School class for many years.He taught in the public schools for three years including one year at Pascagoula High School as the Drafting teacher. He was employed by Ingalls Shipyard for 42 years. He also wrote the manual for schedule and planning which he taught for 20 years at the Jackson County Junior College Campus. He served as a Master Mason of the Masonic Lodge of Moss Point. He was a member of Anna Oâ??Neil Chapter of Eastern Star of Moss Point and a past Worthy Patron. He was a member of the Young Mens Business Club for many years having served as President, Parade Marshall for the clubâ??s Coronation Ball, Arch Duke and Emcee for the ball. He served on the Ingalls Employees/Navigator Credit Union Board of Directors for many years. He held the position of President of the board several times, secretary of the board for several years, Chairman of the Resolution Committee on the state level many years and in 2006 he was inducted into Mississippiâ??s Hall of Fame of Mississippi Credit Unions..He served as president of the Gulf Coast Metropolitan Dinner Club, King in the Jackson County Hairdressers Ball, and was a charter member of Ingalls Management Association. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Antoine Cirlot IV and Clotele Stewart Cirlot, also by his brother John Antoine Cirlot V of Parker, AZ. He is survived by his wife Dorothy Marie Holifield Cirlot; three daughters and son-in-laws: Maria and Bill Wilson of Moss Point, MS; Liza and Rick Looser of Brandon, MS; Jeannie and Dave Burkhalter of Dallas, TX ; six grandchildren: Evans Wilson of Houston, TX, and April Wilson of Moss Point/MSU, MS; Regan and Tripp Looser of Brandon, MS; Brittany/TX A&M, and David Burkhalter of Dallas, TX; one living brother-in-law and wife: Dr. Bob and Jean Holifield of Laurel, MS: Many beloved nieces and nephews of his wife and many of his dear cousins.Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm, Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Holder Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS.Funeral service will be held at 3:00 Sunday, September 28, 2008 at Dantzler Memorial Methodist Church, Moss Point, with Rev. David Greer officiating and the eulogy given by Laurin Avara. The casket will be opened one hour before service for viewing.The pallbearers will be Dr. Pete Avara, Matthew Avara, Joe Brown, Dobbs Dennis, Joe Hans, Kenny Robertson, Dr. Sid Ross, and Downer Stewart. The honorary pallbearers will be the Mens Bible Class and The Navigator Credit Union Volunteers.. The ushers will be Charles Harrell, Hardy Martin, and Mac Simmons. Interment will follow in Griffin Cemetery in Moss Point, MS. Instead of flowers, donations may be given to Dantzler Memorial Methodist Church of Moss Point.The family wish to thank Dr. Joel Brunt, Dr. Catherine Hirsch, and Dr. Pavel Khimenko for their love and dedicated service to Rip through all these years
