Robert "Bob" Jacques Anderson

Local businessman Robert Jacques “Bob” Anderson, 82, patriarch of Anderson’s Bakery, Inc., passed away peacefully at home on July 19th. Born March 27, 1931, in Ricketts, Iowa, Anderson served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1950 to 1954 before being honorably discharged as a Seaman, 2nd Class. After his military service, Anderson worked for Hy-Vee Food Stores for 17 years overseeing bakeries across eight states, retiring as Director of Bakery Operations in 1976. Following his retirement from Hy-Vee, he purchased Cooper’s Bakery in Pascagoula on June 1, 1976, turning it into a local landmark on the Gulf Coast, still owned and operated by the family, where he worked until his 82nd birthday. Bob, a caring and sincere Christian man, was a member of Arlington Heights Baptist Church, as well as past patron of the Eastern Star and a fifty year member of the Masonic Lodge. Bob enjoyed fishing, boating, golf, Saints football, Braves baseball and most importantly spending time with his family. Anderson is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Edna Strange Anderson, of Pascagoula, Mississippi, his sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Marcelle Anderson of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, Bob and Julie Anderson of Mobile, Alabama, David Anderson and fiancee Lynae Jacob of Pascagoula, Mississippi, and Tom and Shelley Anderson of Jacksonville, Florida, grandsons Steve Anderson of Manhattan, New York, Bobby Anderson of Maryville, Tennessee, Brad Anderson, Brian Anderson and Brent Anderson of Mobile, Alabama, David Anderson of Pascagoula, Mississippi, William Anderson and Alan Anderson of Jacksonville, Florida, granddaughters Mary Anderson Tsourouktzis and husband Markos of Sevierville, Tennessee, Bonnie Anderson of Gatlinburg, Tennessee, great-grandsons George Tsourouktzis of Sevierville, Tennessee, and Titus Anderson of Maryville, Tennessee, and great-granddaughter Giana Tsourouktzis of Sevierville, Tennessee, brothers-in-law, Elbert Strange of Collinsville, Mississippi and friend Sarah Brown of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, Joe Strange and wife Ellen of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Rev. Mack Strange and wife Barbara of Kentwood, Michigan, sisters-in-law Volna Butler of Trentwood, North Carolina, Arrie Dollard and husband Jimmy, of Evergreen, Colorado, Kathy Rouse and husband Harold, of Red Level, Alabama and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, William and Pearl Anderson, father-in-law and mother-in-law Mack and Mabel Strange, and brother-in-law, David Strange. Pallbearers will include Grandsons and other family members. A visitation will be held at Holder-Wells Funeral Home on Monday, July 22, 2013 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Services will start at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Mack C. Strange officiating. Interment will be held at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula, MS. Relatives and friends are welcome at Holder-Wells Funeral Home for the visitation and funeral service.
