Mr. Robert Henry "Robbie" Maxwell

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert “Robbie” Maxwell. Robbie, 76, passed away on Friday, November 6, 2015, surrounded by his loved ones in Pascagoula, MS. A proud Mississippi native, Robbie served in the National Guard, United States Army and 24 years with the Pascagoula Police Department, earning his degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, where he also taught criminal justice. Robbie served 25 years as past President and Executive Secretary-Treasurer of the Mississippi Law Enforcement Officers Association. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and the Secret Service Dignitary Protection program. After his retirement from the Pascagoula Police Department in 1984, he served as the Administrator of the Jackson County Youth Court until called upon to join the staff of then-Congressman, now retired, Senator Trent Lott of Mississippi. During his tenure with Senator Lott, Robbie actively supported passage of the legislation that ultimately became the Police Corps Act in 1994. Robbie retired from Federal Service on December 31, 2003, after serving the government for 23 years. He was the National Director of the Office of the Police Corps and Law Enforcement Education at the United States Department of Justice, appointed by President George W. Bush in November 2001. He returned to his home town of Pascagoula upon retirement and founded Robert Maxwell & Associates. His professional life was dedicated to public service and his community and in 2009, he was elected Mayor of the City of Pascagoula. Robbie was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jeanette Maxwell, his parents, Robert E. Lee Maxwell and Anna Laura Ditsworth, his brother, John Edward Maxwell and sister, Nan Ditsworth Roberts. He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Martin Maxwell, his children, Nicky (Janna) Maxwell, Dane (Donna) Maxwell, Robbie (Walter) Perez, and Amy (Randall) Cobb, his siblings, Richard (Guy) Maxwell, Annette (Bobby) Hudson, Jan Shepherd, Sherry (Ollie) McVeay, Wayne (Dot) Ditsworth, Hazel (Eddie) Gilstrap, Mary Alice Ditsworth, Grady (Nancy) Ditsworth, David (Annie) Ditsworth, his grandchildren, Chad (Autumn) Maxwell, Drew Maxwell, Lyndsey (Matthew) Lamb, Anna Lee Perez, William Maxwell Perez, Katherine Cullen Perez, Taryn Cheek, Chandler Cheek, Lawren Cobb and Emily Jean Cobb, great grandchild, Aubrey Leigh Maxwell, sister-in-law Lynda (Eddie) Smith, the family of Rose and Joe Martin Sr. and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. We cannot adequately express our gratitude for the tenderness and compassion shown by Dr. Edgar Hull, Dr. William Lobrano, Dr. Terry Millette, Hospice of Light of Singing River Hospital: Rhonda, Amanda, Theresa, Connie and Cindy and his caregivers, Andrea and Nikki who treated him like family. A visitation for family and friends will be held at First Baptist Church, 902 Live Oak Ave in Pascagoula on Monday, November 9, 2015 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 3702 Quinn Drive in Pascagoula. Interment will follow at Machpelah Cemetery in Pascagoula with full honors. Pascagoula Police Department Honor Guard will be serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Walter Perez, Randall Cobb, Chad Maxwell, Drew Maxwell, Matthew Lamb, Will Perez, Anna Perez, Katherine Perez, Lawren Cobb, Emily Jean Cobb, Lyndsey Lamb, Taryn Cheek, Autumn Maxwell, Rob Hudson, Ricky Hudson, Bill Hoffman, Charlie Helton and Curt Hebert.
