Mr. Curtis Eugene Roeder

Curtis Eugene Roeder, 75, of Pascagoula, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at Singing River Hospital, on Thursday, May 26, 2016. He was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Curtis Adelbert and Gene Stratton Roeder. A native of Venice, Louisiana, he graduated from Buras High School and later Southeastern Louisiana College, earning an Industrial Arts Education Degree. He joined the U.S. Air Force and went to Turkey, the Philippines, and two tours of duty in Vietnam. He enjoyed seeing the world during his military time. He retired as a Head Operator with the Chevron U.S.A. Refinery in Pascagoula, after 25 years of service. At First Baptist Church in Pascagoula, he was a Sunday School Director and member of the choir. He was ordained as a Deacon, and later was honored as a Lifetime Deacon. He loved God, his family, his church, his country, and Chevron and his fellow employees. He received tremendous joy in helping people by fixing outboard motors, working on vehicles, and fixing things in need of repair. He enjoyed woodworking and made many clocks, bookcases, wood carvings, games, etc., as well as household labor saving devices. He repaired church pews, bookcases at the church as well as other things that needed done. He loved water-skiing, and took great pleasure in helping to coach youth baseball teams for over 10 years. He loved telling stories, was always smiling, and never met a stranger. His greatest desire in life was to serve the Lord and to help others. He was preceded in death by his Uncles: George Roeder, Lynn Roeder, E. J. Ellzey, and Dr. B. B. Baker; and his Aunts: Mary Russell, Hallie Baker, and Leonie Ellzey. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Dora Lee Hess of Venice, Louisiana, and recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary. He always opened the door for her, and told her that he loved her every night, with a hug and a kiss. He is survived by two caring sons: Daniel “Danny” Roeder of Pascagoula, and David (Joyce) Roeder of Chicago; three adorable grandchildren: Sara Grace Roeder and Jacob Glen Roeder of Tupelo, and Annmarie Kathleen Roeder of Chicago; two brothers: William G. “Butch” (Ina) Roeder of Belle Chasse, Louisiana, and Ralph W. (Carol) Roeder of Houston; his Aunt Jane Davis of Tyler, Texas; his Uncle Richard Ellzey of Houston; his brothers-in-law and their wives: Willie (Loraine) Hess, Robert (Junior) Hess, Johnny (Irene) Hess, Jerry (Gladys) Hess, and Roy (Karen) Hess; and many nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held at First Baptist Church of Pascagoula, 902 Live Oak Avenue, on Tuesday May 31, 2016, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with funeral service beginning at 11:00 AM, and interment immediately following at Jackson County Memorial Park. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of First Baptist Church of Pascagoula. Rev. Dennis Ray Smith and Dr. Jay Cook will officiate, and Minister of Music John White and Church Pianist Annette Baggett will help to celebrate his life.
