Floyd Raymond Watson

Floyd Raymond Watson, 84 of Escatawpa, passed from this life on Friday, July 9, 2010 in Pascagoula. He was born January 31, 1926 in Koshkonong, Missouri. Mr. Watson was a United States Navy veteran of World War II. He was present on the USS Missouri and witnessed the Japanese surrender and the signing of the peace agreement between Japan and the United States of America. He was a long time member of Escatawpa Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Trustee for over fifty years. Mr. Watson also taught the Floyd Watson Sunday School Class and enjoyed playing softball, tennis and basketball. He was an avid traveler and gardener. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Pearl Maxine Sparks Watson; and a brother, Robert Lee Watson. Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of sixty-three and a half years, Mrs. Betty Watson of Escatawpa; son, Ramon K. "Ray" and Barbara Watson of Wade; daughter, Celia and Talmadge Estis of Slidell, Louisiana; grandchildren, Philip Watson of Ocean Springs, Jill and Devin Barringer of Clinton, Louisiana, Melissa Rasberry of Slidell, Louisiana; great-grandchildren, Madison, John, Rebecca, Jacob and Carolyn; brother, J.R. "Buddy" Watson of Hurley; sisters, Ida Mae McLeod of Wade and Pearl Maxine (Cumbest) Davis and husband Glynn of Three Rivers; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00pm on Monday, July 12, 2010 at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from Escatawpa Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Bowen and Rev. Steve Cirlot officiating. There will be a one hour visitation in the church prior to service time. Interment will follow at Serene Memorial Gardens in Escatawpa. Serving as pallbearers will be John McLeod, Billy McLeod, Ricky McLeod, Danny McLeod, Johnny Watson, Alan Watson, Roger Watson, Chris Cumbest, David Cumbest and Brian McLeod. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons of Escatawpa Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mr. Watsonâ??s name to the Family Life Center of Escatawpa Baptist Church @ 7101 Hwy 613 Moss Point, Mississippi 39562.
