Mr. Lenwood Ernest Tillman

Mr. Lenwood Ernest Tillman passed peacefully from this life on November 24, 2017, with his wife of 51 years by his side. He was born on December 10, 1940 to Nathan Ernest and Helena Amelia Westfaul Tillman, and was a lifelong resident of Moss Point, MS. After graduating from Moss Point Central High School in 1959, Lenwood served 2 years in the US Army and spent 10 years in the Army Reserves. He married Ann Dethloff on December 17, 1966 and they shared 51 years together. Lenwood retired from International Paper Corporation after 37 years of employment as an Industrial Mechanic and he held a degree from the ICS School of Mechanics. He was a member of First Baptist Church SBC Moss Point, MS. He was a past President of the Moss Point Camelia Society, and he enjoyed propagating and growing Camellias. He experimented with developing new varieties of camellias, and was very proud of the new bloom he named for his daughter Lisa Tillman. Lenwood was a member of both the Sons of the American Revolution and the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He enjoyed woodworking, making dove-tailed cypress boxes, clocks and unique foot stools. He gifted these creations to friends and family. Lenwood spent many hours on the water, fishing, shrimping and harvesting oysters. Cooking and serving the seafood he caught gave him immense joy and satisfaction. Lenwood was very family oriented and never said no when a family member needed him. He enjoyed celebrating all the holidays with family members. Lenwood enriched the lives of all who had the privilege to be a part of him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nathan Ernest Tillman and Helena Amelia Westfaul Tillman White; step-father, Hugh Carter White; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jesse and Margie Dethloff; sister, Doris Marie White; and a brother, Angus (Pat) White. He is survived by his wife Ann Dethloff Tillman; daughter, Lisa Tillman (Tom) Rose, of Ocean Springs, MS; brothers, Joe (Jean) White of Texas, Jerry White of Moss Point, MS; sister-in-law, Margaret Dethloff of Moss Point, MS; brothers-in-law, Frank (Sarah) Dethloff of Mobile, AL and Bruce Dethloff of Mont Bel Vieu, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. A visitation will be held on Monday, November 27, 2017 from 1:00 PM-2:00 PM, at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS, a funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 PM, with Reverend Mike Perry officiating.
