Lou B. Hewlett

Long time Pascagoula and Moss Point resident, Lou B. Hewlett, on the morning of Saturday, April 21 passed on while hospitalized briefly for congestive heart failure. She was born July 18, 1927. Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Verne and Martha Ellen Barnes of Illinois as well as her husband, Duell Hewlett of Pascagoula, MS. and sister, Jeanne Barnes Royster. Lou retired as Associate Director of the Jackson-George Regional Library System in 1989 and is survived by her three children including daughters Carol Hewlett of Moss Point, MS and Martha (Jimmie) Carrow of Grand Bay, AL as well as her son Tom (Marie) Hewlett of Queen Creek, AZ. She is also survived by two sisters, Connie (Jimmy) Coulson of Three Rivers community in Jackson County and Susan (David) Loffer of Marietta, TX. Other survivors include four grandchildren including Brannan Hewlett and Mandi (Brandon) Edwards of Moss Point, MS, as well as Lee (Wendy) Chandler and Victoria Carrow of Grand Bay, AL. She also is survived by seven great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Lou was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Pascagoula, MS where she particularly enjoyed her membership in the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class and the Gilmore Girls Circle as well as service by her pastors Revs Jim Fisher and Sherry Judy. After her retirement, Lou continued to actively support the library through contribution of volunteer hours and her association with the Friends of the Library at the Moss Point Public Library. Those wishing to pay their respects my attend viewing services at Holder-Wells Funeral Home in Moss Point, MS 6:00 p.m to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 24. A service in celebration of a life well-lived will be held at First United Methodist Church 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 25. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to two preferred charitable causes: The Susan Belcher Memorial Scholarship Fund at First United Methodist Church, Pascagoula, MS or The Friends of the Library Organization at your favorite public library.
