Margaret Miller Havard

Margaret Miller Havard, age 89, passed away at home in Moss Point, Mississippi, on June 3, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents, Boyd C. Miller and Margaret Miller Powe; her husband, William Verlon Havard of Lucedale; and her sister, Agnes Miller Coleman of Moss Point. She is survived by her daughter, Jeannie Havard Neely and husband Marcus of Gulfport; her sister, Betty Miller Myers of Moss Point; her grandson, Shea William Neely and wife Shana of Waynesboro; her granddaughter, Tana Neely Hegan and husband Steve of Spanish Fort, AL; her five wonderful great-grandchildren, Caden and Nathan Neely and Conner, Neely and Lori Anna Hegan. Margaret was loved by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was like an additional grandmother to them. She was dearly loved by her wonderful friend and caregiver, Ernie Carter. Margaret’s family moved to Lucedale, Mississippi when she was three years old. She had so many wonderful memories of growing up on Main Street. She lived in Lucedale for 51 years. Margaret was a very active member of Lucedale United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Ester Kirkwood Circle, served as President of United Methodist Women, as well as served other offices. She kept the nursery on Sunday mornings for 30 years. She was proud to be involved in so many children’s lives. Margaret was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, and the Lucedale Women’s Club. She served as secretary for the American Red Cross. She began her career with the Mississippi Employment Security Commission in Lucedale. Margaret moved to Moss Point in 1979, where she retired from the Mississippi Employment Security Commission in July of 1990. She was a devoted member of Dantzler United Methodist Church in Moss Point. She was a Member of the Mizpah Sunday School Class, the Winifed Suthoff Circle, Young at Heart, United Methodist Women and Dantzler Game Girls. She enjoyed years of serving on the family ministries committee and the care committee at Dantzler. Margaret loved God, her family and her friends. She loved life and enjoyed years of traveling with her family and friends. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s, great-grandchildren’s, nieces and nephews sporting events and activities. She knew they were performing just for her! Margaret lived life fully and deeply, always touching the lives of those who came to know her. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at Dantzler Memorial United Methodist Church in Moss Point at 11 a.m. with visitation held at 9:30 a.m. prior to the service. Interment will follow at Magnolia Garden Cemetery in Lucedale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Dantzler Memorial United Methodist Church.
