Steve Harris

Steve Harris, born in September 1952, passed away in December, 2019 at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his father, John Carrol Harris, Sr., and his mother, Mary Patten Roberts Harris. Steve is survived by his wife of thirty eight years, Debbie LeBeau Harris, his son, Matthew Ryan Harris, his daughter, Lauren Juliana Harris, a grandson, Dylan Beatty Killingsworth, brother J.C. Harris (Sandra), and sisters Pattye Hall (Larry), and Barbara Carter (Nebo), his nieces, cousins, and friends. Steve was a wonderful man, and the best son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He graduated from Vancleave High School in 1970 and from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1974. Steve was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Vancleave and held many administrative positions through the years. He was a trustee at the New Prospect United Methodist Campground in Vancleave. Steve worked at Chevron USA in Pascagoula for 33 years, retiring in 2010. He always tried to do the best job he could possibly do at work and cared very much for his colleagues at Chevron. Steve loved to spend time with his grandson, Dylan, doing all the things a Papa and grandson do together. He loved to ride his Harley, especially with his friend, Jim Flurry. He loved to fish with family and friends. Steve really loved to deer hunt from the time he was a young man and could always tell the best stories about those deer hunts. He also liked to play golf but was never as good as he wanted to be. The annual Camp Meeting was a favorite of his and he looked forward to it every year. At home Steve loved to work in his yard and always had the family pool in beautiful condition. He liked to keep his truck in tip top shape and and enjoyed sitting outside at night waiting for the stars to shine. Everyone agrees that he he was a master cook on the grill and anyone who every ate one of his steaks, ribs, or brisket would agree. His mastery of seafood was delicious whether, boiled, grilled or fried. The annual family vacation to the Smokey Mountains was always a favorite of his along with his Harley trips with friends.Steve always took great care of his dogs throughout the years. He worked hard from the time he got up until bedtime. We never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. He was faithful to God, loving, compassionate, intelligent, and most of all kind to all. If all human beings were made like Steve the world would be a wonderful place. We love him and may he Rest In Peace. Visitation will be Saturday January 4th, 2020 from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Vancleave. A celebration of life, in his honor, will begin at 11:00 am from the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers the family wishes donations to be made to Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church or New Prospect United Methodist Campground.
